Why not.?? You can get the mega dex entry and if you want more mega energy once you mega evolve it you can have it as a buddy and walk to get more

There really isn’t a downside, even if he has low ivs, Slowbro doesn’t get much use in pve and if you want more energy after just make any Slowpoke evolution your buddy amd you’ll get more. So I’d say just go for it to get a start on the Mega level and to get it in the Mega dex.
