They probably have all their gym slots occupied, but still manages to be a jerk.

I’ve been doing this to a gym by my place for the last couple of weeks. One of the teams there are pretty annoying knocking out the other teams pretty quickly. I don’t really care except for the coins but I have other less aggressive gyms nearby. When I see their colors in the gym, I knock them out and leave it for the other colors. If they respect the time, I leave them alone.
I only became more involved because my son likes to play, but his device doesn’t leave our place so this is the only gym he can earn coins.
I rotate between about 7 buddies a day. If I’m near a gym, I’ll use that to get the fighting hearts and so I can also work on the achievement medal. Usually I don’t put one of mine in unless I have 0 other gyms.
I have often fought gyms n left them empty simply cos it makes me giggle (never w full hearts tho)
I’ve also noticed in my area that gyms near highways, seems like we’ll jump into battle and fight just one guy before it kicks us out. When the last one is beat, they’re too far away to replace it, so then it’s empty for the next guy. –I think this one is great because sometimes they can get stuck there for a while and it’s always a treat to see one coming up since spinning on the highways is basically impossible
They could be driving by/a passenger and decide to fight the gym but can’t put a poke in maybe
To let you get coins
Well I see the road right next to the gym, is there a stoplight there? If so, it’s possible people start battling the gym at the light then they drive away. I know my son likes to do that when he’s playing in the back seat while I’m driving.

It’s normally jerk players who “mafia” an area. You don’t know who they are, you can’t put anything in for 10 minutes and it’s the ultimate FU. I’ve been going through the same with a toxic area where a group of blue players with multiple accounts have locked down the entire town. They added a new gym and they have kept it blank by kicking anyone else out too
I suspect drive-bys from the freeway-looking road. By the time the battle is done they’re well out of Pokestop range to add anyone. I live in a rural area (by game standards) and it happens often.

Are you known to kick out pokemon when it recently has had new pokemon dropped? If so they are now retaliating.
FYI I like to leave pokemon alone if they haven’t gotten their 50 coins and I check the nearby gyms to see if they are also there to sum up the times. Ex if person has pokemon on two gyms and they are both at 4.5 hrs then I can kick them out
I do that on occasion when I think I can defeat a gym and get a Pokémon in before a raid starts. Turns out my sense of timing can be way off.

I do this to dickheads when they decide to knock me out immediately after I knock them out.

If I see someone in a gym over 8.5 hours I will kick him out so he can get coins, but I don’t put one in so someone else can put one in. I don’t need the coins at the moment.
Serial killer traits
I do it to one person who constantly knocks you straight out of a gym in the local park, as they can reach it from where they live. Only do that though when I know they have already either had their coins for the day, or not long jumped in. Otherwise I let them rot, not getting 50 coins off me. It is really petty, but I did think they would have learned by now not to knock me straight out. But no they dont. This person should have had alot more coins off me for sure x
I do this when people are possessive over a gym.
Like if I take it and get booted within 10 minutes multiple times in the same day then I’m greying it out.

It’s not about winning – it’s about sending a message. Plus, the cool down keeps the original holding team from getting right back into the gym, whereas if you put something in they can knock it right back out.
I also like to do this now and then for the lolz.

You might have pissed somebody off. There’s a jerk lvl 50 gym defender in my area and I constantly take him out alone and leave everyone else in or if he’s the only one I’ll leave it empty

Ps: i have a blue team that exclusively drives, that will take every gym in the park. 4 of em stufged in a little sh*tbox. I’ll be walking and see it happen on my feed. As soon as the leave, ill knock every gym and only put a pokemon in one. Just to make a point.
