No surprise really, it is very clearly a game for little kids, if I gave my 6 year old nephew this game I have no doubt he would love every second of it.

I’m a massive fan of the original, but I’m not even sure if I’ll pick this up.

Can’t say I’m surprised. Visuals aside, they weren’t showing the game a lot through the months, which tells me they had very little confidence with this game.
But i hope it is still enjoyable for those are picking up and love the first one.
hermanbloom00
It’s on my Deku list for my son (6) and I guess this kinda reinforces my thoughts. Maybe. He is so random on what he gets into and what he immediately dislikes. So guess this waits for a big sale (if this will go on sale).

Looked like shit to begin with not surprised. Pokémon has gotten the shit end of the stick for years now.

Just goes to show Graphics Matter!
Void_Salmon
6? That seems a little generous. I guess the fact that it’s a Pokémon game gives it a base 5 :/
FrozenFrac
Sounds about right. I’m a fan of point and click games and visual novels, so the premise of the original game sounded cool to me, but it’s very much only a kid’s game.

I’ve been playing Master Detective Archives: Rain Code. Really great and well done detective game on Switch!

This series is running itself into the ground with trash games. Unless something seriously changes I’m probably skipping them all together.
TombstoneGamer
I played a little bit of the demo for the 3DS game and immediately knew that it was a little kids game. It felt like Dora the Explorer level of difficulty with it’s puzzles. I’m not surprised that this one is similar.

Not developed by Gamefreak. So that’s a plus.

I wonder why IGN doesn’t have super fan Casey review the Pokemon games anymore. It wasn’t the best sign, that the game was a 49.99 game. If Nintendo didn’t have confidence in it at full price, there must have been something wrong with it.
isaelsky21
This is when it flops and I’m here for it. Let them shift their focus to something else. Can’t say Mystery Dungeon cause they don’t give af about the fans. That’s been made pretty clear.

I know graphics aren’t everything but this game is unbelievably ugly that it makes Scarlet/Violet look **decent** in comparison.
The gameplay isn’t that good either, it’s basically like Ace Attorney with a bit of 3D exploration, except the whole game feels like it’s on Tutorial Mode.
I don’t know why some shows and games treat kids like they are massively stupid and incapable of doing the most basic thinking.
PapaProto
Probably about right.
They’ve been oddly quiet about this on the run-up to launch?
AeroBlaze777
No idea why they waited this long to make a detective Pikachu sequel after the movie did relatively well in 2019. Feel like this would’ve sold like hotcakes if it came out sooner

well clearly not for adults

It’s almost like this spinoff has been complete dogshit from the beginning and TPC should use the budget on making mainline games we actually want.

Is it safe to say that Detective Pikachu as a series is arguably the most confusingly overrated Nintendo franchise in recently memory?
FutureEditor
I just removed this from my Gamefly queue, I was a bit overexcited just because it’s detective pikachu and it’s not going to give me the same excitement as the movie did. More time to finish Armored Core VI before Mario Wonder comes out.

An IGN 6 is like an any-other-industry-rating-scale 2. Rough.

Can’t say I’m surprised, I thought Scarlet and Violet looked alright and even to me this looked ugly in the trailers

The only thing I am looking forward to is the preorder gift promo card with the game.

It’s really unfortunate that the Pokémon company won’t make Pokémon games for the grown up generation who loved the original series and wouldn’t mind giving them money if the games catered to them a little more. Legends Arceus was a great step in the direction of engaging that group but it that’s all they did. It hurts to know that a kid game with so much potential for more is just that, A kids game even my own kid doesn’t even care for Pokémon that much outside of the first game she played and some plushies she has

I will still buy it, hopefully they think there’s enough interest for another movie

It’s suppose to be a kids game right. Why we reviewing it. Pretty sure when I played the original they asked me straight up Dora the explorer questions

Man the inflated video game scores are showing. People think anything that isn’t at least an 8/10 is bad now.
