There’s not that much of debate honestly.
If the Pokemon has no raid or PvP use there’s no reason to not purify. A weak Pokemon is more useful as a hundo dex entry, and being shadow won’t make a bad Pokemon better.
If the Pokemon is useful in raids the shadow is always more useful thanks to the attack boost, unless it can mega evolve, in which case the mega is stronger. Regular and purified will always be weaker than shadows no matter if they’re perfect.
If the Pokemon has good PvP stats the shadow might or might not be better, as it varies from species to species, but the purified is 99% of the time worse. When you purify you gain extra stats, which increases the attack and makes most PvP Pokemon worse.
So purifying a Pokemon just because you like is not bad, only that you will have a much harder time beating the opponent than if you had a good shadow.
