I’ve played on and off and have been back playing for about two months. I was out playing when the update happened (roughly 18:20 BST). Just tried the update and got the same screen.
There wasn’t even a warning about this. I know my Galaxy s6 is old for a phone but I’m probably not going to buy a new one just for Pokemon Go. Will probably just have to accept that I’ve lost it for now, unless this is unintentional.

It says in the in game news log that “Android 7 “Nougat” will no longer be supported for Pokémon GO as of this update.” That’s a big oof.

I’m not sure if you’re on a galaxy phone, but had this same problem. I ended up downloading pokemon go from the galaxy store app and it’s been working

What happens if you tap those playstation symbols at the bottom? Could that fix it?

happend to me mid. 2017. didn’t get a new phone till december 2019.

Was there a new update of the game today? Could play without any problems 6 hours ago and now this… I have android 7 and that should be fine:
