Super Mario Bros Wonder is at No.2 in the UK physical charts. It’s the fifth biggest boxed launch of 2023. Sales are about 62% lower than Zelda’s launch. But 2D Mario games tend to be longer term sellers. Launch is significantly bigger than what New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe did

I’m trying to like it. it’s too chaotic and all over the place imo.

I mean, this was never going to beat Tears. Zelda and full 3D Mario games are huge events when they’re released.

  3. necroreefer

I beat it in 2 days I played TOTK for 2 months got my money’s worth from both but I wish there will be DLC.

The game is soooo good. Im not even the biggest 2D Mario fan, but i feel like im constantly smiling playing this game.

Hats off to the developers, the ideas and creativity in this game are absolutely incredible.

I’m hoping this will be a slow burn in terms of sales. Sure it didn’t have the release hype other titles had, but it’s the premier 2d Mario for the Switch right now, and I would argue it’s an essential purchase for any Mario fan.

A new and innovative game destroying a glorified re-release of a 5 year old game? Colour me surprised.

This guy still hasn’t changed his thumbnails lol

  8. He also added that Wonder is the had the 3rd biggest Mario game launch in the UK. Barely behind Odyssey and 3d all stars and suspects that if digital sales are taken to account, it might actually be number one.

  9. I guess I’m in the minority. But I prefer 2D games like this compared to 3D ones. It’s what I grew up with.

  10. It’s the best super mario game I’ve played in a LOOOOONG TIME!

It feeels like the dev team truly had fun with this one.

Its tough. I has a hard time justifying the purchase because of the reported length of the game, and because it’s a 2D game and 60 bucks is steep, but I’m really glad I did. It’s so much fun and I imagine I’ll probably give it a second play through once I beat it.

It’s gonna kill during the Holiday season.

TOTK was Nintendo’s fastest selling game ever. Being 62% lower than that is still a total dub.

  14. NIN10DOXD

Not only that, but the UK has historically been Nintendo’s weakest major market.

Having finished the game I can promise that this one will be an absolute darling among Mario fans.

It may take time to rev up the sales from word of mouth (or however people get convinced to buy Mario games) but no doubt in my mind it’ll be the best selling one ever and one of the biggest games on the Switch in general.

The Switch has had a really strong library since day 1 but I’m amazed they’re still putting out some of their best work this late in the cycle.

Well no duh that it would do better than the repackage of a WiiU game

  17. I’m very excited to play it, once I clear my backlog of:

    – Spider-Man 2
    – Final Fantasy 16
    – Got some ranks on Halo Infinite Season 5
    – Cocoon
    – Starfield
    – Sonic Superstars
    – Play Alan Wake 2 for release on Halloween

    This year is freaking stacked.

There weren’t as many deals for the game in the UK as it seems there usually are. The best offer by far was from Currys for £37.49 using a promo code, but most other places (including Amazon) had it for £49.99. For me at least, that’s steep for most games, and a lot of people were probably waiting for a price war that never really came. It’s now averaging closer to £40 so I think it’ll have consistently strong weeks over the next couple.

we haven’t seen anything yet. these are just the early adopters. i bet holiday/christmas sales are going to be huge. it’s an all ages gift that’s easy for parents to recognize on sight.

just because a game’s a slow burn doesn’t mean it’s a failure in sales. people are probably waiting because of the timing. i know i am.

  21. Uncle_Budy

I’m definitely gonna buy it…eventually. There have just been so many good games released this season, I ain’t got time for it yet.

  22. Affectionate-Fan9425

I just bought a new Nintendo Switch OLED bc of SMBW.

  23. Ok-Toe7389

This game will sell big over the holidays

  24. Turnabout-Eman

A lot of 2d mario games are christmas games. It definitely sells better long term.

  25. Cash4Goldschmidt

Casual player here. Did they market this game at all? Like it just came out of nowhere, and I don’t even know what it is. Based on context from these comments it’s a new NSMB game?

I can see why sales are a little lagging

  26. blehbleh1122

I think sales will increase during the holidays. I was playing it all weekend and it’s really good. Not “as good” as ToTK but they’re different types of games.

  27. motorboat_mcgee

Glad they threw in the long term bit, its going to have looooooong legs

  28. d0m1n4t0r

People still buy physical? People still care about physical sales?

  29. 16bitrifle

Only reason I haven’t bought it yet is because it’s going under the Christmas tree for my kids this year.

  30. TheKoniverse

Pretty solid launch, especially for a game that is no doubt going to kill it during the holiday season.

Though the problem I have with this analyst in particular is that he seems to think that Super Mario Bros. Wonder is not a major Nintendo release (even saying that this was being done by Nintendo’s C-team) and he seems to be doubling down on that.
