They don’t answer the question, aside from some Doug Bowser PR quotes we’ve already heard before

I will never get over the fact that a guy called Doug Bowser runs Nintendo America.
I’ll probably take a look at this game once I’ve played and finished Zelda: A links awakening. All about that bringing the old style into the modern era style.

The real answer is that they didn’t want the drama-tubers to echo-chamber their fake rage into something that could hurt the game.

It’s gotta be so that the new actor didn’t get harassed for not being Charles Martinet, right?
TheOtherWhiteCastle
Because they correctly realized that the internet was going to harass the new VA the moment he was announced, so they waited until the game’s release in order to reduce the amount of toxicity?
Not to mention, Kevin Afghani is not exactly a household name in the voice acting scene. Nobody in the fanbase was going to be hyped by his reveal, even if Nintendo had tried to make it a big announcement.

No one should’ve had any expectation that Nintendo would make his identity some big deal. Maybe in the next game it will be someone different. It’s like the mascot for a corporation [literally], sports team, etc. The company would rather you not know who the “real person” is. I’m so confused by this article.

Because they know the surprise will get ruined, like it just did for me
ImBoredButAndTired
I really hope people on the internet start getting comfortable with the idea that animated and video game franchises are now never-ending and that voice actors are going to be replaced with other voice actors. Even The Simpsons stopped retiring characters once the actor died – they just got a replacement actor for Martin when his VA died a couple years back.

I’ve been loving Wonder and completely forgot there was a new VA until this thread. Makes no difference to me.
tatony
I hate any noise that mario makes that isn’t a woohoo, ugh, or hmph.
funktownrock
Because no average person cares who voices mario.
DeadCowv2
I’m out of touch– why did they hire someone new?
JerrodDRagon
I don’t want games rushed but imagine if this came out the weekend the Mario movie came out
I feel like the hype would have been insane
GAMIE64
I actually don’t mind the new VA, after spending a few hours with Wonder.
Can I hear a difference? Yes. Do I love every line? Well… For now it’s 99%. Don’t like the “thank you” at the end of some stages, which sounds like the VA’s regular voice instead of Mario.
But, for 99% of the time, especially whilst playing, the voice fits perfectly. Which was a big show to fill!

My question is why did they replace so many voice actors all at once this year? It seems kinda crazy and like there would be a reason for it
LostOverThere
Was it ever mentioned why Charles Martinet stepped down from the role?
Whalnut
Bro downvote me but I think he did such a good job with the new voice. It breathes life. I literally almost prefer it over the original, it’s so excellently done. Obviously original is legendary, but yeah I literally like this one better.

Who cares, is the game good or not?
neonzombieforever
People care who makes the wa-hoo sounds? Good lord.

Shoulda been Pratt…
Lmao

When the movie hit I immediately thought they were working on a new game

> “We want people to enjoy the gameplay experience, and if they enjoyed the voice behind the gameplay experience, that’s what’s most important to us, not necessarily highlighting [Mario’s actor],” Bowser told WIRED last week.
This is such a weird thing to say. Martinet IS Mario and everyone knows it. Why did they suddenly decide that they didn’t want that to be the case?
Ma3rr0w
I mean, i still think donald glover would’ve made a dope mario, he’s great at everything else after all

NorthernSkeptic
why do they even need a new voice actor for a few “wahoo”s? Can’t they just keep using existing clips?
