Yikes. I only delete if I think they haven’t been on forever.
I know I’ve done this to someone once because I didn’t know better 😭 as soon as I learned that they don’t get the xp that way I felt SO BAD

I wait until they send me another gift or I see them open another gift I sent before I consider deleting so I know they got exp. At this point there should be a monthly forum shaming the users that waste months of others time to deprive them of experience. Also repeatedly bug Niantic until they remedy this form of passive aggression toward strangers

We should be able to name and shame trainers who do this, just to be sure no one wants to be friends with them anymore.
Sane for trainers who keep the last gift unopened for weeks or months, to be honest. Because you know that they are so self-centered that they’ll instantly delete you once they eventually open that gift, leaving you with weeks of frustration and empty hands in the end.
Why do the friends I have send me gifts but never open mine?

I don’t delete ultra friends and up. Even if they no longer play.
So stupid! I hate when people do this. I only delete if someone is truly inactive.

This is why unless it’s someone I know IRL, I won’t allow them to be the last one to open the gift. I don’t trust a lot of people who play this game.
I have TWO people who I have been 2 days away from hitting best friend level with for close to 2 months now. I have one from them and they have one from me. They both used to open my gifts regularly & I know they’re waiting for me to open first so it can be down to 1 day, so that they can be the one to (probably drop a lucky egg to gain experience). Idc about if they wanna use a lucky egg, but my biggest worry is they’ll delete before I can gain experience. So I just plan on waiting for the next time there is an event where we can get 2 hearts for friendship interaction to just open the gift and level up the friendship. I’m not an asshole player and I have only deleted one person on PoGo (who is someone I had a falling out with IRL lol)

That sucks. It’s lame of the other trainer, but it’s bad UX too. Niantic should really fix this.
I have a friend who is 1 interaction away from us being Ultra friends, and it’s been like that for **weeks** now. Looks like they hit level 50 and stopped caring.
I name those I will delete ‘delete’ and only delete after
A: I see them online on another day after I claimed XP.
B: When they open the gift AFTER we have triggered the bonus already.
Like hey I want to double up on the xp but you still need to get your part of the deal.
I had no idea this was possible. 🙁 I’d never do that. So mean.
