It’s in the category of remakes like Link’s Awakening and Pokémon BDSP then. I hope it’s more like the former though….

  2. Reciter5613

I like to play the game but more eager to hear the new remade soundtrack!

  3. Responsible-War-9389

Wouldn’t the definition of a 100.0% faithful remake be (edit: functionally identical to in all ways barring graphics, from a consumer perspective)… a remaster?

    I want some new content!

  4. SlaughterSpine78

Does it still include “that” part?

  5. wangston1

I’m really hoping for new content. I’ve played this game to completion at least 5 times. It’s one of my favorites, but I really don’t want to pay 60$ for a remaster.

  6. 500DaysOfSummer_

Any idea how long the game takes to beat?

Also does it have a good/high replay value?

  7. SavvySillybug

How many faithful remakes have they played? Or is that just a statement they thought sounded good in a headline?

Link’s Awakening had a hella faithful remake, I loved it. It had 100% of the exact content of the DX version on Gameboy Color, with a tiny bit of fun extra content sprinkled on top as a treat. The silly character designs really captured the spirit of the original sprites and the tone of the whole game.

Im curious about what they’ve added or changed, but im assuming there’s less utility to play the remake if you’ve already played the original.

On the flip side, people who never got to play the original, who may never go out of their way to do so, get introduced to what was easily one of the most unique RPG’s of the 1990s in quite likely it’s definitive form.

What I’m most curious about is what might follow from this. We all know the direction Mario RPGs went after this game, but what if Nintendo/Square do in fact make a sequel to ‘Legend of the Seven Stars’ after this release? Id love to see something like that.

  9. Digitalon

I feel like people keep forgetting about the Link’s Awakening remake that was released a few years ago. Besides the art style change it’s pretty much the same game that was released on the Game Boy.

3 hours into a paper Mario 64 play through. Should I put it on pause to play this game first, since PM64 is the closest thing to a sequel”?

  11. I never played the original one and I’m not sure what to expect in Mario RPG. I love RPGs in general and I just finished Wonder which I’ll keep playing to 100% because it clicks all the boxes of what I like about a game. Should I be looking at RPG as my next game? I wish there was a way to find out without buying.

  12. HistoryWillRepeat

I won’t this so bad, but God damn $60 is a tough pill to swallow.

  13. save-the-world12

Man November 17 can’t get faster

  14. Legitimate_Shower834

I never preorder but I made an exception for this one

  15. Is the OG game a banger? I’m excited for this release. Wonder has been treating me very good this past week, having a blast with it. Would love to continue this Mario high I’ve been riding on.

Haven’t looked into Mario rpg much but I’m hoping there will be a lot of replayability!

  16. Darkhallows27

Faithful good or Brilliant Diamond faithful?

  17. LastOfAutumn

Very excited to play. I have faith it’ll be true to the original.

Now give us A Link to the Past.

  18. FaxCelestis

My only desire is that they do something about the permanently missable stuff, like the mushroom over the doorway you can only get at the very beginning of the game by jumping on Toad’s head.

  19. RoyalOGKush

27 long years for this moment. The best non traditional Mario game to come out

  20. I still can’t believe this is real. I always wished for this, and never thought it would ever see the light of day. This will honestly be such an emotional gaming experience for me on so many levels. SMRPG is truly one of the greatest games of all time

  21. I never played the original so I’m super excited for this. I hope faithful doesn’t mean they passed up on obvious QOL features or changes.

  22. IronLusk

Diehard Mario fan, but always skipped this one and Paper Mario because I felt like I would hate the gameplay. Turn based games are my absolute least favorite. But I might have to make an exception here.

  23. roosell1986

A more faithful remake than Link’s Awakening? That’s one hell of a feat!

  24. Eagles5089

I never beat the power rangers in the original

  25. I guess they haven’t played many. Nintendo has already showed MASSIVE changes… There’s a lot of accurate remakes. Star Ocean 2 just came out today and changes less than what Nintendo has shown for smrpg

  26. Careless-Instance-26

    Buying for soundtrack.

I literally cried when I got the SNES cartridge for my birthday.

  27. Sweetluups

Cool, peach looks janked without a neck tho

  28. Doctor-Grimm

Not a big fan of most RPGs, but I’m happy that people are getting this. I’d be happier for them if Nintendo actually bothered to make a new Mario RPG game – like that’s ever gonna happen – but still.

Now, Nintendo, GIVE ME SUPER PAPER MARIO ON SWITCH pls 😭

  29. ThatGuyFromTheM0vie

I hope with Super Mario RPG Remake and Paper Mario 1000YR Door Remake, Nintendo wakes the hell up and realizes “hey, people really like Mario RPGs.”

Like if you like what happened to Paper Mario, sure. There are some redeeming qualities of the new games.

But they are basically different games that stole an existing franchise’s name.

I’d instantly buy a new, proper Paper Mario entry ala 1K Door. There’s so much potential there, and it is still crazy to me that they hard shifted that franchise into a totally different genre.

  30. RandomUsername232323

    Can’t wait to play it.

    But Star Ocean comes first

  31. Akindmachine

New Star Ocean 2 remake would like a word (came out today). Literally 2 of my favorite games of all time but SO2 edges this one for me personally. Super Mario RPG is an amazingly fun game but it was always a bit lightweight as RPGs go. Still so charming and fun, top 5 for me all time. This gives me a reason to buy a Switch, so do they ever go on sale?

  32. What am I suppose to do when I get stuck in Geno’s maze?

    Also don’t forget PEARLS.

  33. The_Genj

Glad they are sticking with old story, unlike Ff7 remake. They promised not to change and that’s pretty much all they did

  34. Ill-Organization-719

I have no interest in replaying it, but I love the idea of an entire new generation getting to play it.

Maybe now Square and Nintendo will let Geno do his thing.

  35. ChuyMasta

Will I be crucified If I say I’ve never played this game?

Is that a sin like not playing Zelda or never watching Star Wars movies?

  36. Thehawkiscock

I really hate the new font/UI. I get that the old font was probably not easy to read, but I still wish they could have put some effort into stylizing it somehow. Paper Mario TTYD still has a stylized font.

  37. ProjectsAreFun

Totally hoping this is a runaway success and they give it a true Super Mario RPG sequel, not just a spiritual successor.

  38. imhighonbelieving

Should I buy this if I’ve never played it before?

  39. zanderson0u812

Just wait til the first time players get the bombshell about Grandpa Frogfucius and Mallow.

  40. Rocky121212

I remember playing the original when I was 8 with my dad. He found a shortcut to get to the end pretty quickly.

Unfortunately he passed a few years later but playing this game with him was a fond memory I have.

I’m a dad now and I’m excited to share this remake with my kids 🙂

    *most faithful remake*
