Screaming to the sea with Lodge Gladion (Kanto CS, Legendary Arenas) [Pokemon Masters EX]

Lodge Gladion’s a pretty interesting unit. He doesn’t really bring anything new to the table, but he does combines several different niches into a unique combo. At the center of those niches is Haze, which is powerful in several modes – it’s essentially a free 100 points in CSMM and finds use in multiple LAs. He also has all of defensive buffs, toxic poison, and Synchro Healing to make him an effective tank for stall teams.

That said, his buffs are quite slow for today’s standards, especially on the offensive front. He also faces some gauge issues due to the lack of speed buffs and a 1-bar move. Finally, having to rely on Synchro Healing for sustain is only reliable for longer fights, although he does have Healthy Healing and First Aid 4 to help in shorter matches.

Brought him to some CS and LA matches to try his kit out. Here’s how each battle went and the sync grids used:

Gladion’s been waiting for an alt for so long, and while he’s still waiting for one with a different outfit, at least his base unit works well enough with his lodge unit. Tech Kangaskhan rounds out the team with her Def debuffs and flinches.

Thanks to Lodge Gladion’s Haze and Synchro Healing, I’m able to get quite close to 3,000 points with only defensive parameters – I only got the lowest Attack and Strength boost options to top everything off. I got quite lucky with TM MPRs here too.

(And yes, both of these CS clears are against Agatha for the Golbat mirror match lol)

Haze invalidates a significant part of what makes Cresselia an obnoxious stage, while Sync Cure lets Gladion overcome the other significantly obnoxious part of this stage. Since he has Antitoxin to block the Bar 2 Toxic, I just gave Nanu Lithe so that he doesn’t get crippled by Thunder Wave. Needs very good flinch luck – for some reason none of my previous attempts flinched the Bar 3 Icy Wind.

One neat strategy I learned in LG10 was that Uxie can be poison stalled if you don’t have any status change inducers left. If you preserve Uxie’s Lessen Poison 8, toxic poison will make short work of Bar 2, and Gladion makes it easier to tough it out with his defensive buffs and Synchro Healing. He isn’t that bulky though so I brought Ghetsis along as the other status condition inducer for the extra debuffs, although I did face gauge issues.

The game now has 3 Crobat and 3 Golbat (counting the eggmon) so DeNA is a Zubat-line stan confirmed. Haze makes Bar 2 Latias significantly easier to deal with, and with MPR I didn’t even need a debuffer to clear the stage.
