The best Ottawa Pokemon Go Youtuber….is Poke Daxi but I am here too
This channel is where you come if you want ideas for:
Great League Teams
Ultra League Teams
Master League Teams
Beyond the Hype. I created this series as there is a lot of click bait and false impressions of pokemon and I want to give you a real in depth analysis of whether a pokemon is worth spending dust and candies on.
Pokemon GO has just announced the Adventures Abound season featuring the pokemon found in the Paldea Region. This season of GO Battle League features a significant move updates includes nerfs, buffs, and new moves. In total it came with over 150 move updates.
With all these move updates, this video will focus on pokemon that received a significant buff for this upcoming season of GO Battle League either through moves specifically being buffed or access to new moves.
This week it is catch cup. Only pokemon that have been caught during the Adventures Abound season are able to participate in this league. Here are some top teams for catch cup.

You mentioned before that past seasons were much shorter and that 3 months for a GBL season means its a lot more accessible to hit legend for more players. As a new player who isn't quite at the skill level to hit legend this season (currently at veteran) I would argue that those who haven't hit legend yet may not achieve that goal and that this cup is a fresh and fun way to spend the final weeks of gbl. TBH I think it should be relegated to the ACTUAL final week of the season to appease people still grinding but from what I've witnessed in the community, most legend players (who aren't aiming for leaderboard) like to drop elo to enjoy less meta/try-hard games once they've earned their season rewards.
I personally am looking forward to top players like yourself and other's unique off meta team building and general meta analysis of this cup as its such a unique concept for a new player like myself.
Appreciate the content and discussions of the game state in your videos as always, Dan!
Going off your point about the whole game. Niantic really need to kick it up a few notches next season otherwise they will lose players
And as for new season there will be the guaranteed XL from trading. Again they really need to shake it up and make the game enjoyable again for all
I have a Question i caught Shadow Charmander recently with frustration if i evolve it in community day dec is there any chance that i get the blast burn and wing attack fast move? Or i need to unlock his 2nd charge attack first and then evolve it in December community day to get blast burn in 2nd charge skill slot.
Dan I really like your content, but whats up with this rambling lately. I liked Electric cup, I love catch cup and I hope they will repeat winter cups as this will be my first time playing in winter. I catch with my children and friends, I lost 20 pounds of my body fat and I generally like this game. Especially Catch cup where I cant be beaten by Deoxys Defense or Registeel or some pokemon from WAY BACK I cannot have. Only thing I think they are doing wrong is tgat GBL should be accessible for new players and new pokemons should be best in GBL. UL and ML should be ruled by those mons from Way Back, so new players play GBL and old players ML as the Legacy firmat
These were my very same thoughts. I've only just really got into PVP in the previous season, and after all of my investment to keep up versus my returns, it just seems insane to keep grinding every season for a decent Catch Cup team and burn away more dust and candy.
I get what you're saying about the game. Maybe it's just the fact that I don't play as often as some other people, but I'm still into it. My main complaint is the amount of RNG and grinding you need to do to get anywhere. With the way this game plays out, I can capture 1,000 of any meta pokemon and still not have enough XL candy to power it up enough.
I have 3 Pokémon and they are Clodsire, gligar, and quagsire. That’s the order I also used them and went 19-6. But I ranked the days before and I was at 2000. But I climbed back to 2230 so maybe I still hit legend. I could also build a medicham but to much dust to do it. And I’m running low on dust
Luckily I’m a new player, so my entire team was eligible for catch cup. I’m running Medi, lantern and shadow ninetales and I’m 14-1 so far☺️
As a relatively new PvP/pogo player, I feel at a massive disadvantage throughout the season as there's always high ranked Pokémon in the themed cups which haven't been very accessible for some time – it's nice to have 1 week of this cup where I feel like I'm fighting on equal ground as everyone else
I always play on and off, the game does have the tendency to get stale for periods of time. If it wasn’t for the GBL move set update this season I probably wouldn’t have played again. Battle is the most fun thing for me about pogo
To me this cup seems to be the least effected by the algorithm and it’s actually pretty even so far I’ve found. I only have 4 Pokémon to choose from which gets kinda old but the matches have been pretty fair so far
I’ve sent you some battles, Dan. Had to submit each set though instead of it all in one. Went 8-2 at 2400/2500 ELO
Thoughts on video: thanks to the combination of hitting 50 in June, hitting legend last season, the weekly events and a new job I started in July, I have not played much at all this season. Played beginning of this season some, and during ml because I know I can climb and dust. I have not missed it all. Only thing I’ve missed is the, for lack of better term, willingness/availability to go to CDs to see the local community. Taking this week off because I have like 4 options built
Off topic: been a while since I’ve checked in. How’s your fantasy football going? Trying to make a playoff push?
Do I spend a ton of dust building better versions than i already have of shadow dragonair, Shadow a-ninetails, and azu? Or save the dust instead of trying to climb from 2500 and up? Build not great ivs of gligars?
Hisuian voltorb seems like a good core breaker in theory.
I feel you on the waning enthusiasm. I think part of it is just playing for a couple years, there isn’t hardly anything I actually need from an event. So yeah, most events I look at and at best there are a couple shinies to chase that I don’t have, at worst there is nothing for me.
But they have to cater to newer players who haven’t had good opportunity to catch certain things, so stuff will get recycled. So I think it is a challenging balance to entertain hardcore and longtime players who have built full collections, while also not alienating newer or more casual players who will get bored or frustrated because they had to wait 5 years to raid Mewtwo or build a good Charizard or whatever.
And I think for GBL that’s true as well. You don’t see absolutely massive meta shifts because it would punish newer players who grinded for months to build meta mons just for you to aggressively nerf them all or something.
It would definitely be nice to see more new Cups though, even though most of them end up garbage with only 10 playable mons anyway.
But yeah, I think catering to newer players is the priority, because people start playing then get bored and stop, more often than longtime hardcore players get so bored or frustrated that they hang it up.
Final thought, don’t forget that this WAS a good season for GBL. Their overriding concern was getting Noctowl and Lanturn off of every single team, and they accomplished that. The meta has been a lot better for it despite still having some issues. It was a good step
As a frugal stardust spender I have a problem building recently caught Poké’s just two weeks before a potential meta change. I did it with granbull and nidoqueen in seasons past. Don’t know what nerfs and buffs are coming.
A reward for new players isn't necessarily a punishment to veterans.
I returned to the game in July, after a five year break. I just learned about pvp and the appropriate IVs in the past few months and so my entire Great League roster can participate. Bonus for me, right? Sure, but we new players still DON'T HAVE an XL Lickitung, or an XL Medicham, or an XL purified Sableye, or that thing casts V-Create every 3 seconds, or that frog that throws Hydro Cannon every 2 seconds. So, everything about the game is still in the favor of the pro players EXCEPT for Catch Cup week. So it's really not the dick-punch you're making it out to be.
I'm using Skele as lead and both wooper Evos in the back
Skeledirge did well for me so far. I feel you about the wins with a weird team. I’m using Jellicent, clod, skeledirge. Surprisingly a lot of Scrafty’s in my elo.
Subscribed, turned on notifications, and don’t regret it one bit. You’re awesome, bud
Yeah the meta changes ever couple of hours and you need to have Pokemon that can adapt to that in the open league. I like that the people who have been active are rewarded with the stardust bonuses because they've earned it. A returning player shouldn't have the same access to 4x stardust when they haven't contributed to the community all season
The problem I have with catch cup before was building up strong mons for it and then they are nerfed in yhe next season. I don't want to build something that i won't be able to use next season and until move updates are announced i don't know what they will be
Just sayin if they added a mode for REAL Pokémon battles like in the game there would be a huge surge of players
Your video is my comfort, Dan. I can not play GBL for a week and still watch your video everyday.
Do you plan to stream your GBL sets with commentary? Would be cool to hear the thoughts of such a strong player like you in live
I don't play PVP anymore but still enjoy your channel. Appreciate the consistency, as your videos have become part of my routine.
I don't consider your tone negative. You're being honest as you always are, in my opinion that's I know your channel for best, honesty in pokemon go.
For me as a newer player, I was having fun with charizard and garchomp days but I absolutely understand why it was so boring for older players who have seen this before, maybe not mega garchomp but Charizaed has been featured at least once or twice before. Niantic refuses to balance and inspire the battle scene, they rely on paid events to give them income and don't fret about what comes after.
Yeah its terrible week for gbl. Catch cup and no other option
you think jelli, arctibax and shadow slash works?
PoGo is dying and along with its downfall is that of its games content creators that invest a lot of time and some who do it as a big source of income for them. Tragic how Niantic is not delivering for the name of the game, it’s company and the community.
The first day of catch cup (yesterday), I managed to get two 4-1s using Altaria/Clodsire/Skeledirge. This team did somewhat okay.
Today, I decided to switch out Skeledirge with A-Slash. I was very proud of the outcome: I managed to gain ~200 elo where I went from 2,419 to 2,615. It’s sort of like running Dragonite double steel in ML in a much lower scale.
Speaking of terrible success, I went 9-1 running Oinkologne/Obstagoon/Talonflame. Today, Arctibax/Oinkologne/Charizard worked nicely. Arctibax is really attack weighted without much compromise on defense. I took a Greedent out from 40-30% health with an avalanche
For me vigoroth lead, safe switch lanturn, and shadow victreebel closer has been great. Shadow is in arlo, vigoroth was just in the wild so a little harder to get, and then lanturn had a spotlight where I got a really good iv one.
I spend only a little bit stardust except a second medicham I wanted to build at a point, it’s 7/15/14, 141 cp, rank 4…with this I will not lose every cmp against opposing medis as before w my 5/15/15.. went 5:0 with gligar/medi/sh. Quagsire ( 5/12/10, 7/15/14, 1/10/14 )
well atleast they nerfed clodsire to preserve the loyal old players teams from becoming useless
I will say tho at 3200 elo I’m seeing a lot of random spice and i don’t feel so bad for having to use a completely random team anchored by a community day-dragon breath Charizard 😂😂
I’ve been rocking Lickitung in the lead, gligar safe swap, and Water Gun Lanturn in the back. The team has been performing well for me
Gligar, c-bug, shadow A-slash got me a 4/5, 3/5 my first two set to put me in expert for the first time ever, I’ve been hard stuck in Veteran for a while, I almost cried when I did it😂 I told myself I wasn’t going to play because it’s a bad cup but I’m ADDICTED so I went for it and it worked out!
This Catch Cup is my opportunity to punish some player's Pokemon availability. Over 8 sets I'm 33-7 with Steelix, Lickitung and Shadow Alolan Sandslash that I've built for Open Great League this season. I am certainly getting many free wins from alignment during this cup and climbed from 2200s into the 2600s over the past 2 days.
Playing jelli , medi , carbink and i feel like cheating . Went from 2713 to 2910 today, lol
Love catch cup I am actually climbing lol I am trying hard for expert level sitting at 2280 right now I’m running gligar-lanturn-serperior
Or vetran whichever is after Ace
Bruh I kinda need your videos man to keep hitting ace rank
Um, you forgot the oldest and largest. PokeAk. Also everyone forgets barely missed being the first world champion
Hopefully they never do a week of just catch cup again.. its so lame
i ran triple ghost and did pretty good lol. sableye, jeli, coffi
I just caught a Medi with 1141 CP in my house with Counter and Psychic already. I thought about it, but it's like why? It's going to eat well over 400K dust, and this cup sucks lol
I get the idea behind it and in theory it's sounds cool, but I guess some people have the resources and see it as free wins 🤷♂
I started playing again for the first time since 2016 (other than briefly during a trip to Japan) earlier this year and started playing again as a my son started getting into pokemon stuff. You are the only content creator I watch with any regularity because of the dad gamer vibes. I love seeing their toys in the background of your videos and the occasional interruptions (and the fact that you don't edit this stuff out). If you are burnt out take a break but also if you just want to slow down because other things are more important then do that to. I'll still come watch.
On the catch cup even as a "new" player I am not enjoying it this season. I caught a good lickitung this season and just this week an excellent shadow sableeye to purify but I can't play either of them this cup because I am still grinding the XLs on the lickitung and haven't even started the sableye yet. And then next season I can't either just like my carbink I spent most of this season grinding because it was caught a week or two before the it would be eligible. Very frustrating. Even for no XL pokemon I don't have some massive stardust bank saved up to just waste it willy nilly.
Many thanks Dan for the video. Bad player here, but finally figured out the team I want to run in this Resources Deletion Cup (Golbat/Umbreon/(non-CD)Quagsire). 😅
Just don’t stop making these videos, please. Don’t force us to watch PokeAK lol. Seriously though I really enjoy your content and style it’s a good balance of informative and entertaining that no one else seems to get right, especially in the GBL space.
As I started Pokémon Go in febuary and started using pokegenie this season, this cup has been incredible for me, I have tons of pvp iv Pokémon built and my team isn’t any different from what I usually run. If you think about it this way, it gives the players who are newer a chance, when usually it’s harder for them to climb because I’m unable to build medicham Carbink or lickitung because of my level 38. It’s also easy enough to build usable Pokémon each season. Level 50 players who have been here from the start can’t understand how nice this cup is for us, I’ve never been able to climb past 2000 elo because of medicham and the XL Pokémon I cant play against, but in this catch cup, in 10 sets I went 37/50 because of one 0-5 set where I just got hard countered.
