Great League Teams
Ultra League Teams
Master League Teams

Beyond the Hype. I created this series as there is a lot of click bait and false impressions of pokemon and I want to give you a real in depth analysis of whether a pokemon is worth spending dust and candies on.

Pokemon GO has just announced the Adventures Abound season featuring the pokemon found in the Paldea Region. This season of GO Battle League features a significant move updates includes nerfs, buffs, and new moves. In total it came with over 150 move updates.

With all these move updates, this video will focus on pokemon that received a significant buff for this upcoming season of GO Battle League either through moves specifically being buffed or access to new moves.

This week it is catch cup. Only pokemon that have been caught during the Adventures Abound season are able to participate in this league. Here are some top teams for catch cup.

In advance of the new season of Pokemon Go, today we are looking at potential move buffs, nerfs, and new pokemon in the game.

  1. ice punch on medi and sandslash need to be nerfed imo. Maybe reduce damage by 5, but not increase energy. Nerfing psychic again could hurt umbreon, clefable, cofagrigus

  2. I never understood why they nerfed Sky Attack. Noctowl had a lot of counters with Carbink, Lanturn, and Alolan Sandslash. It could barely beat Medicham.

  3. I think the way moves should be done is base on the season’s schedule… like next season we know for sure that we are getting Love Cup, Some Holiday/Winter Cup… am so on not to mention that we are possibly getting a weekend with all Past CD moves for the Year!
Still there are 2 ways to go at it… 1. Do it by seasons schedule! 2. Do it by overall game play!
Am yeah Niantic trying to milkshake this game by Mons is ridiculous! It is getting boring really quickly! Among the mons not getting a nice move set that Dan didn’t mention Ursaluna shadow claw! Will see not much high hopes for this new up coming season! Am I know content creators will do their best to milkshake it as much as possible!

  4. Based on what you said at the very beginning they wouldn’t need Steelix because of it not being used much in tournaments. Also they could nerf counter. Make it a poison jab clone and buff different fighting type moves or add new ones

  5. I really like your idea of how they should nerf BS. Although I think it’s balanced on everything but Steelix so I think it’s fine for now

  6. I want them to buff feint attack so bad. Also I want fire types better. Especially talonflame. I think they should buff 3-5 turn moves so that can help incinerate or they give talonflame a new fast move.

Also Ik this is my 3rd comment. I think it is

  7. I actually dont think they should nerf breaking swipe cuz that will make rayquaza useless and people paid for it. So they gonna have to buff rayquaza then somehow

  8. Nice video as always Dan. As suggested, the best medi nerf would be a better fire fast move to awak and skeledirge. A bone club boost would also be nice. I also hope they add a lot of cover moves to fringe pokemon.

  9. Love the content keep it up. Would love to get your thoughts on new game mechanics that could be added to gbl

  10. They should just take it away from Steelix.. every other Pokémon is fine. Either that, or just give it to Rayquaza

  11. Great video mate. As a Feraligatr enjoyer I hope someday Niantic gives him some love (Super Power/Ice Punch/even Shadow Claw are all in his move pool).

Regarding Breaking Swipe I could see them slapping a 5 power nerf on it and calling it a day. Net it would still be a much stronger move than Dragon Claw factoring in the debuff. Tbh I question if Steelix even needed access to Breaking Swipe since Psychic Fang ain’t no slouch.

The Sky Attack nerf has been a bit of a bummer imo since Skarmory and Lugia for example took a massive hit from that where really it was done because of Noctowl. Maybe now that it costs 50 energy they could make it a Sludge Bomb clone and bump the power back to 80? Might’ve been more elegant to make it a 70/45 move with no debuff chance more like a slightly worse Crunch.

Interesting how Niantic concentrate primarily on the Great League. I do understand their rationale but thinkin on it I think maybe Ultra League Classic was my favorite. Good times

  12. they should either remove the guarantee debuff on breaking swipe or increase the energy requirement

  13. So I’ve been thinking about Medicham nerfs. My thoughts are, instead of touching the moves, is it not outside the realm of possibility to change Medichams stats directly? As in, giving it a higher attack stat, which yes, on the surface makes it hit harder, but also makes its stat product smaller in the great league. Yeah, an argument is for those who spent the XLs on a level 50, myself included, but I think it’s the most fair way to go about it, so other mons don’t get affected

  14. Nerf lunge, icy wind and mystical fire.
And/or, create hypnosis as the psychic variant of the above moves

  15. 💯 give a shit tonne of Pokémon additional moves. Machoke Electabuzz for example only have single type moves….. increase Psychic energy to try and knock over medi. Buff fast moves like Metal Claw Iron Tail Steel wing!!! Poor Skarm copped a huge L cause of Noctowl….. bug bite struggle bug scratch mud slap, there’s a huge list. I’d love to run Cranidos and Rhyhorn in GL but their moves are all ass.

  16. My answer is so long..

We have 3 issues in GBL. I don't believe Medicham is but, everyone else does. The other 2 are the massive increase in ground usage between Quag, Clod and Gligar and Steelix with Breaking swipe.

Medicham: Buffing psychic would hurt this Pokémon more than debuffing. It would give psychic types more play against it since they are one of the few typings that resist and do neutral damage against it and there's a 20-30% chance Mcham isn't running psychic. Passing Fly around and raising the energy gain of Confusion would knock it back.

Grounds: I like the way these Pokémon are but the typing has become too safe. My answer to Medicham checks Clodsire. Grass types need one more buff, maybe reducing energy cost for Trailblaze and more play in flying types with a fast charge move like Fly works because it outpaces the Stone Edge.

Steelix: Fire needs to be buffed so hard it upsets people. The type in general is countered in every way by everything. Also, I agree with decreasing the debuff rate of Breaking Swipe. Haxorus and Ray need another move to make up for it though. I really don't know what to give them.

  17. Maybe I'm missing something, but buffing fire and bug would essentially kill grass if nothing is done to help grass. And grass is already in a rough spot with the rise of gligar and the rise of ice type pokemon to deal with gligar. With grass being dead, there's nothing to check water, or at least less to check water duo types, which then means swamperts and lanterns and greninjas especially will roam free (freer), which we've seen and hated in the past. Then to counter fire and bug, there will be more rock pokemon. To counter rock (and greninja), fighters, especially medicham, are "buffed" to deal with the increase in rock pokemon. That would basically nullify the pyschic nerf because you would want pup or dynamic punch for the rock anyway and still have ice punch to deal with the increase in flyers from the bug buff.

  18. Buff fairies (but don't touch charm unless they make it do less damage lol) for answers to medi too. This will also make a reason to bring in a fire type too if fires get boosted since more steel use could happen as a result of the fairies.

  19. Nidoqueen can learn Shadow Claw via TM in main series games. If it had access to that in PoGo then it would give fast move pressure to Medi and restore the old pacing to poison fangs. Less damage per turn and not stab, so I think the trade off from that perspective would balance it.

  20. Don't touch Medicham. Just improve both Pokémon and moves that scare it.

Same with Breaking Swipe. Just buff its other counters. Where are those fire type buffs we need?

X-Scissor did NOT get a buff LOL

  21. in regard to breaking swipe, to be fair to everything that had "that ability" (100% debuff chance) prior to nerf, it needs to match other moves of the same quality, either chance of reduction, reduce damage, or raise energy cost OR bring other moves back to 100% chance also.

  22. The only nerf GBL should get is NERF Great League frequency. Ultra League should be scheduled 6x, and an Open Great League like 2x, with one or two more times for GL Remix so Medicham gets banned. That's it. GBL fixed. Open Great League only available when it's the 3 leagues week.

  23. Appreciate you taking the time to read my comment. It was a lot but you gave it a moment. Thanks!

  24. I don't think you can buff fairy because of the effects it would have on the master league.

In terms of counter, I think I disagree. I love counter, and the pokemon that have it, but I think if you make it a poison jab clone it would still be really good. I know it would effect a lot of pokemon, but a lot of those pokemon are really strong anyways.

  25. Breaking swipe needs to be nerfed, sacred sword needs to be nerfed, buff flamethrower to force registeel into obscurity, and buff the damage on icicle spear to end gligar. Yes, medi is everywhere, but it’s easily available; registeel, onix, gligar, verizion, and cobalion are not and that’s why they need to be forced out of the meta.

  26. Ice and dragon will get some intention next season Dan due to the pokemons will get released soon through tickets purchase like carbink debuts mark my words, charms also will get nerfed and pound will get a buff as a lot of fairy types have access to pound and i think astonish will get buffed so a lot of new ghost pokemon will be handy ❤

  27. I think they need to buff steel moves, fire, fairy, bug. Nerf medi. Give toxapex and clodsire their movesets they had before people complained. Lastly i dont know if they have done it before but they should start taking moves from certain pokemon such as taking counter from medi

  28. I’m so sick of all the “nerfing”. This is one reason I hate Niantic for doing what they always continue to do = “nerf” moves. If a player(s) suck dude they just suck. Nerfing a pkmn’s moves only hurts the pokemon. Skilled players will find a way to make use of a pkmn’s potential as opposed to those who just want to nerf everything because they suck at GBL. Aside from that, even if your preseason speculations aren’t 100% correct it’s close enough. What most trainers just need to accept is that Medicham is once again the king in GL. History is just repeating itself even if they nerf it another pkmn will replace it so there’s no point of “nerfing” it.

  29. One thing I'd like to see is Hydro Cannon get hit with a +5 energy nerf. It'll make Swampert counts go from 5, 4, 5, to 5, 5, 5 and Greninja from 3, 3, 3 to 4, 3, 3 (and if you get off a Night Slash bait, you'll still get to the next Hydro at the same time).
Empoleon would be collateral, but you can then give it Shadow Claw. SC gives it better coverage and would still make the new Hydro quicker to get to (12 turns vs the current 15). Drill Peck could also receive a slight buff which also comes with the benefit of slightly buffing Zapdos (4, 4, 4 instead of 5, 4, 5).
Blastoise can do with better charge move coverage, ideally something a bit quicker – maybe Body Slam or Aura Sphere.
Feraligator doesn't really have any play right now so it's already in need of a complete workover.
What I like about a Shadow Claw Empoleon buff particularly is that it introduces (or reintroduces) a water type that fires have play against.

There's a couple other nerfs I'd like to see:
    – Pyschic +5 energy for reigning in Medi
    – Wing Attack maybe -1 damage and Air Slash +1 damage to give more flying types play. What I'm worried about with Air Slash is that it might make Mandi too oppressive
    – Moonblast +5 energy makes Cress and Carbink a bit weaker. It also changes the move so it's not just a straight upgrade from Play Rough. There is some collateral like Clefable, but that leads to the buffs:

    – Give Clefable Mystical Fire for a bait/coverage move. It changes its win rate from 17-25-1 to 23-20 (assuming non-nerfed Moonblast) with wins against 2 steels – Regi and A.slash.
    – Give Tentacruel Payback or Brutal Swing. With Payback, it doesn't actually change its W/L record and exchanges neutral damage more "soft" losses. With Brutal Swing though, it gains 3 extra wins (6 new wins, 3 new loses). It also gives Cruel cheaper/bait option which I feel it sorely needs. BS might make it a little too good though.
    – Bug bite +1 damage (Dragon Breath clone) which would buff Forretress, Araquanid and Ledian.
    – Mirror Shot +15 damage. Did you know move has a worse DPE than Psychic Fangs which has a GUARANTEED debuff? This move is so bad and is only on Pokemon that sorely need a better charge move (Magnezone, Forretress, Ferrothorn). Two of these have a double weakness to fire so indirect fire buff?
    – Introduce Burning Jealousy as a Dragon Breath clone. Notable Pokemon that can learn it: Ninetails, Moltres, Magcargo, Torkoal, Heatran, Chandelure, Salazzle, Mimikyu and most of the fire Starters.

I feel like I could right even more, but for the sake of "berevity", I'll stop here.

  30. Need to remove counter from medi completely, its time. Nerfing psychic does nothing except make people run ice punch/pup

  31. I think electric needs a buff. The only viable electric is lantern and that’s only because of its bulk and dual water typing

  32. Breaking swipe needs a huge nerf as does zap cannon and mud shot or hydro cannon aimed towards swampert

  33. One way to keep medi in check is too buff peck so many can learn it and make ot usable
