Why does the game always recommend me to use Conkeldurr nr.1 over Conkeldurr nr.2 when fighting gyms?

My theory is that the game recommends you a team of your 6 highest CP type effective pokemon in a random order with the intention to chip away hp on multiple pokemon rather than a single one. This is of course to waste more of your resources in order to get you to buy potion/revive bundles.
Think about it, why wouldn’t the game always choose the strongest pokemon for you which you could probably solo the entire gym with? That way you’d only have to use 1 potion on a single pokemon after taking down the gym rather than multiple potions on multiple pokemon.
lurkinguser
It does this to my mega too. It’ll recommend my non mega first
Gold-Perspective-699
Movesets. IVs don’t matter that much the moveset does.
Vacivity95
It picks the 6 Pokémon with highest TDO vs the enemy boss and then gives them in a random order
grongnelius
Maybe it’s by height, they don’t want your enemies to laugh at the short one.
yuh79
Nobody talking abiut how he has 19.645 timburr candies??
LittleRogueSkitty
It could also be due to the IVs, no. 1 could have better stats than no. 2, but that’s just my two cents. I don’t know much about the algorithm xD
Alone_Outside_7264
Could it be moveset?
IllustriousDay3241
Because this games sucks sometimes. When i rarely fighting gyms, the game recommends me for example against chansey or slaking mit Golurk with 1600cp or my Gengar with shadow claw and shadow ball😅😂and I have lvl 50 Machamp and Conkeldurr
Forerunnr-AI
The game sent me in to fight a full gym the other day with a 1100 CP 0-star Linoone as my lead… like ???
right_closed_traffic
Probably has higher dps attacks
MorningPapers
I want to know why the game always insists on using Gengars instead of fighting pokemon when I attack gyms with the typical ‘normal’ pokemon in them.
JeezusIsKing
If that guy is nearly nearly a meter tall half of two 70 cm columns of concrete how is he weighing 32kg. Makes no sense at all
RTGold
I have the same problem with my Machamps. They have the exact same move sets. Thought maybe it was the moves at first.
SherbetAlarming7677
So you have to use more potions.
ConceptualWeeb
Finish strong.
Darkened100
You guys battle gyms? I’ve only got the gold medal for doing gym battles and I’m lv 50 lol I feel ashamed
Razamazzaz
I have a 4k CP mewtu with 2 charged attacks, it basically never gets recommended, only the ones witk 2k CP who only have one of the charged attacks. It’s mildly infuriating.
DatShepTho
It’s even funnier when the gym is being defended by a single ditto.
Try it
Alt-Joey
I like when it recommends I use fainted pokemon and then tells me I can’t start a battle with a fainted pokemon.
Hermera9000
I could be wrong for the rest but in raids it depends on your charge attack. So if the attack is more favourable then the other even a lower cp Pokémon will get chosen. I think the recommendation is based on the type advantage via the attack types.
OtteLoc
Your recommended is based heavily on resistances, aka, what will last the longest in battle. This usually disregards attacking power and will normally put in Pokémon with neutral or not very effective moves into your raiding team.
emaddy2109
Does the higher CP one have a second charge move?
Robhana88
Do they both have the same fast and charged attacks, my only theory is that some attacks are obviously more effective than others, maybe it has a better combination of attacks 😕
Spiritual_Clue_2013
Higher cp
Draghomir
It certainly does not want you to neglect Conkeldurr nr. 1
valiantlight2
Heightism
Potential_Water_554
Theory:
Maybe it’s purposely saving the stronger one for a clutch? It seems like it likes to place the stronger one at the end.
mrpderp
It has to do with moveset I think
Badge991
Move set + stab
Aetheldrake
You think that’s crazy? I’ve had fire types suggested to fight water types. Fire types with fire moves.
Ugh and don’t even get me started on the pvp suggested teams. Randomly fucking selected out of like the top 20 strongest mons I have for the league. DON’T GIVE ME 3 OF THE SAME TYPE THAT’S SUICIDAL
James-Avatar
Instead of my Mega Evolved 3000+ cp Venasaur my game was recommending my 36cp Venasaur instead, the recommendations are never close to being right.
Substantial_Tap9674
I think it’s as simple as your first conkeldurr is beefy. Congrats on your hundo, but it’s also the smallest one you own in both categories.
thedeadsigh
Im amazed that people are constantly surprised by Niantic stupidity and laziness
hollow_bagatelle
Because the game is terrible. Are you new?
BigRegular5114
Number 2 must have better attacks for whatever it’s being recommended for.
Groady_Toadstool
Because it is designed to make it harder for you in hopes that you get help and make someone else use a pass.
dare978devil
It’s based on resisting opponents attacks. The lower CP one probably has higher defense IVs.
FunTooter
Do they have the same moves?
Ikichiro
The answer is that the game’s feeling silly.
Actual_Ambition_4464
Probably because of their moves
unbold
It’s disappointing what Pokémon they recommend..
Maserati777
My game has my half health Aerodactyl in the first slot when I do Reshiram. Like I have multiple high cp Zekrom but no lets put in my useless yellow health Aerodactyl lol.
