Awesome. It was definitely my game of the year. Respect for Larian and I love their story as a studio but I simply cannot enjoy their types of CRPG. I tried to love divinity:OS and DOS2 as well as BG3 but it just doesn’t happen.

Been playing almost every day since launch and still haven’t finished it yet and still having a great time. If that isn’t GOTY for me, I don’t know what is.

I have said it thousands of times and I will say it again. BG3 is a wonderful and an amazing game, but with all the bugs and performance problems it has/had (act 3 says hi), I can’t understand how it got all that praise and prices when there are also amazing games which get destroyed in reviews for much less.

TotK, aside from being magistral, does everything which it does with virtually no bugs or problems, which amazes me even more than the game itself. Just for that, for being a letter about how a videogame should launch as a polished experience and not as a beta or a early access, it deserves all the prices in the videogame world.

This is my GOTY, shame they did not win the official GOTY award.

    WOW! EDGE still exists?! 😱 🤯 😱

To me it didn’t have the magic BOTW had, i wish it did

Ok, I need an explanation: why the hell, on a Nintendo subreddit of all places, people who say that a Nintendo game is in fact their favourite from is year are getting downvoted? It doesn’t make any sense

I’ve not played BG3 but TotK was easily my goty and I honestly can’t imagine any game beating it. Okay it’s story is nothing special which is where others excel but it was just sooo much fun!

  9. Possibly one of the most overrated and boring games I’ve ever played. The magic was gone from this one compared to past games.

Glorified DLC that consisted of 90% filler content that was a chore to get through.

More frustrating than fun….I had to just stop playing after a while because it wasn’t even fun.

I was normally hyped going into it, didn’t have unreasonable expectations, and it still disappointed beyond belief.

Not sure how this is GOTY material. Thats a pretty low standard.

Tedious DLC is now GOTY material? How?

I’ve played both and they’re great and brought new groundbreaking stuff to gaming but Zelda was just more polished from start to finish. BG3’s last act had a lot of stuff that felt rushed.

  11. I have 3 kids and a full time job and put in a couple hundred hours on this game. I have every system and play most of the big name games, with the exception of Baldur’s Gate for now, and TOTK definitely won my vote.

  12. Undeserved but whatever, that’s the Zelda bonus.

It was such a tough choice between this and Baldurs gate for me. Mario WOnder was up there too, as was (controversial I know) Starfield.

I only care about how Devolver won third place in best publisher, Fork Parker would be proud

  15. Even in a “stacked” year, this felt like a foregone conclusion back in May. It’s a massive achievement in game design.

I’m surprised to be honest. Totk is a very good game, but come on… It’s a victory lap for BotW. The depths is huge and cool, but there’s only like a dozen important places in it. The new vehicles are really cool, but only a very small percentage of creations are actually useful and once you discover how to build the hover bike you’ve peaked. It’s also 10 dollars more than BotW was and is easily one of Nintendo’s safest releases ever.

I’m a Zelda fanboy. I still regularly play through Zelda randomizers in lieu of most other games and even I can’t wrap my head around giving the award to Nintendo over Larian.

Totk was a fun distraction that everyone was talking about for a month.
Baldur’s Gate 3 shook the industry.

…but ultimately it’s video games and I definitely care too much.

I thought it was Baulders Gate 3 that won?

TOTK is taking top honors at a lot of notable publications: IGN, Game Informer, Giant Bomb, VGC, and now Edge. Not what I was expecting.
