Pokemon Masters EX – Got Battle Rally on lock in just one day

Alternate clickbait title: BEST STRATEGIES TO GET A ROLE CAKE EVERY MONTH IN BATTLE RALLY! But you guys know I don’t do clickbait titles on purpose. After using up all the runs we got for Battle Rally (BR) day 1, I think I figured out a good game plan for this game mode that will grant a roll cake every month. If there is enough demand, I’ll can make a complete guide video. But I’ll outline the game plan in this video description.

—–What to consider at the start—–

The main goal in my opinion is to get the Role Cake every month. You need a total of 24000 BR Medals per month to get the Role Cake. You guarantee 4 BR Pass every month, which means you should try to get 6000 MR Medals every run.

It goes without saying that you need to always do hard battles, you should clear all 10 stages, and you should try to maximize the points you get with using the right character roles. You should also get activated effect buffs to make your runs easier and fast, but you don’t want to get too many. You need to average about 600 net points each stage, which considers the buffs you buy, the 500 points you get in the beginning, Lucky Area, and the potential that you may not maximize the Role Bonus.

—–Buff selection and team building—–

Let’s say that you are doing Hard battles with three matching roles to the Role Bonus. This grants you 750 points ( [ 300 x 3 {0.5} ] + 300 ). Sometimes you may have an EX Role that allows you to get 4 bonuses. Sometimes you may be forced using a unit that gets no Role Bonus. But for the most part, you should be trying to aim for 750 points per battle in my opinion. This leaves 150 points to play around with every stage plus the 500 points at the beginning. What should you do with this 150 points every stage?

When it comes to buying buffs, I think you have to build your strategy based on what you are given. It seems you always get a type one when you begin ([Type] Upgrade), which could be a good start. This buff is super strong because it raises both your attacks and defenses as long as you are using 1 unit with that type. When you get this buff, I’ve also noticed that you can continue to buy this buff every stage after (same for the buffs below), which is good to build up your stats. This buff also allows for flexibility in the Role Bonus. Sure, you might get stuck with needing to use poison type units, but you can often ensure you bring the right role into the battle to maximize your points. Keep in mind that while this buff is strong but cost 100 points, so going this route will only allow for another buff that cost 50 points. In this video, I took advantage of Ice, Dark, and Poison Upgrade, which worked well. If you have a strong character that has their EX Role unlocked, that might be a good candidate to take advantage of this buff (like my Neo Champion Red).

Another great buff are the theme buffs ([Theme] Upgrade). Similarly to the type buff, these increase attack and defense as long as you have one unit with the theme. These are more luck bases compared to the type buffs and are more limiting. What may end up happening is that you have a good character that has an EX Role that is rare (like Sprint or Field) and can help with activating other buffs or is a strong character that can help you clear the stages easily (like my Neo Champion Rosa). Again, this buff also cost 100 points, you I recommend either a theme buff or a type buff.

With 50 points left, I found the best buff to get is [Stat] Up : Power Up. With this buff, your unit does more damage as long as that unit has the respective stat increase. The first few battles might be difficult if you can’t increase that specific stat easily, so you might need to consider what ways you can increase this stat. For me, I found Neo Champion Rosa to be the BR MVP/Queen, because she can randomly increase any stat with her Relic Song, making her a good RNG stat increaser. She can also target defense or special defense increase with her sync grid (I took advantage of this in one of my runs). However, if you get lucky, you may not even need characters to increase this buff if you run into a [Stat] Up 4 buff that matches your Power Up buff (I took advantage of this in two runs this video). If you get these buffs at the same time, it really opens up what teams you can use, which allows for more Role Bonuses.

I also tried the Supereffective: Power Up buff. This buff also cost 50, so it can be used in conjunction with the type or theme buff. This buff increases your damage if you use supereffective attacks, which you might be doing anyways. This buff doesn’t require a stat increase, but it may make team building more limited. I prefer the [Stat] Up : Power Up buff but the supereffective buff is not bad.

—–Conclusion—–

Since BR is still very new, I’m sure there are tons of ways to approach it. For me, I like to use simple strategies that gets me what I want. No need to complicate things or maximize rewards you know?

  1. Few things I didn't get to mention in the description (I recommend you read it):

    – This content favors people who have lots of different units and units with EX Roles unlocked. If you are a new or casual player, don't feel like you need to get your Role Cake every month. Just take it easy and enjoy the content. But for a day one player like me, I think it should be very do-able to get the Role Cake every month

    – I don't recommend getting too many buffs. While the infinite weather or zone effects may seem good, it's not a significant enough buff in my opinion. Your game plan needs to really revolve around these field effects for you to consider taking them.

    – Be careful when switching characters in and out. While it is important to match the Role Bonus, sometimes you make leave behind a good sync pair that would be good in a future stage (especially if they have their EX Role unlocked). As such, deep game knowledge is pretty important in BR since you can plan what different characters you can use that take advantage of your buffs.

    – Try not to buy the one-time use buffs (the food items). While they are strong and can get you over the edge, I find you don't need them if you are always buying the permanent buffs that follow your game plan.

    – While the Apple Cup is an instant win button, I don't actually recommend it. Like I mentioned, I don't recommend buying any buffs for the last stage, because you might be able to complete it without buying any new buffs (all my fights this video were first-try, and as you saw, so buffs were brought). Only buy food or the Apple Cup if you need, but give the battle a try or two first.
