Feeling better with Lodge Wally [Pokemon Masters EX]

I’ve been waiting for Wally to get into the lodge ever since they announced Steven’s lodge unit, since I knew that there was no way he would get in before Steven and May. He had a lot of competition for that third Hoenn slot – Brendan, Zinnia, and Lisia to name a few – but I’m glad best boy got it!

Lodge Wally is pretty typical for lodge supports, in that he has a bunch of small niches that blend into a unique combo. Wally’s own blend is Attack debuffs from Growl, defensive buffs from his TM, and dodge shenanigans from Look Alive 4. Since these are all slow ramping – especially the evasion buffs – Wally is a lot more effective in longer-form battles like Legendary Arenas. I don’t think he really brings anything new to the table CS-wise, which is why I focus on LA duos for this video.

There was no way I could’ve started with anything else. I’m just glad there’s a Fairy-weak stage this week so that SS Wally could carry hahaha.

I like pairing Attack debuffs with Sp Atk debuffs in duos to cover both sides of the damage spectrum. Terrakion in particular becomes a lot easier if both of these stats are debuffed, so Wally really appreciates Anni May’s debuffs here. She also makes short work of this stage thanks to her SE damage and Psychic Terrain.

Green-haired rivals my beloved. Same idea as above in combining the offensive debuffs. I gridded Befuddle on N so that Wally would have an easier time dodging moves, since it not only keeps his HP high, it was also my source of speed buffs to keep gauge up.

Despite the Fighting weakness, Wally is a pretty good tank against Cobalion thanks to his Attack debuffs and Evasion buffs. His defensive tools also let frail units like Helena be able to see the whole stage through. I should ideally have gotten more Sp Def debuffs for Helena to bar skip the second half of Bar 1 but oh well.

Wally joins the growing list of 4-star supports who have a confusion tile for some reason, but his is fortunately linked to a specific attack, which means he can save it for Bar 2 on Uxie. Whitney provides the paralysis and sync nuke here, and as you can see I gambled on a lot of 30% procs to get this clear haha.
