hmmmmmmm….i’m still seeing him looking up….maybe it’s an optical illusion. Do you see a lamp shade, two people looking at each other or mario taking off his hat????

I always thought the SMW death sprite was Mario/Luigi yelling, and the large red thing on their face was their open mouth. Now i don’t even know what it is.
If I try really hard I get what you mean. That’s pretty funny.

Reminds me of Agahnim’s sprite design in A Link to the Past.
It took me until a couple years ago to realize that the top part of the sprite was his crown, and not his face. I see it as a staple of terrible sprite design.

For those who find it hard to see him taking his hat off, you have to look at a smaller picture of it. When SMB3 came out, we didn’t have big screen tvs. On smaller tvs, the sprite was so small that it was harder to make out. Try watching the clip on youtube or something and it might be easier to see (although now that I know that he’s supposed to be looking up, I don’t know if I’ll ever see it the old way again).

I always had problems to see what the wizard in ALttP was supposed to look like.
If I knew this thread would become popular I would have drawn it better/clearer so more people could see what I was seeing better, too late now, I can’t edit this into the op 🙁

I’m looking at the image you posted and I am trying my absolute best to see what you see, but it’s impossible. I’m not actually sure how you ever saw that.
I understand how you mean you see it but I just can’t.
