Studying Sinnoh at the Battle Rally (Sinnoh Upgrade, 10,100 points) [Pokemon Masters EX]

0:00 – Free upgrade + Pattern

Sinnoh’s gotten a lot of good units lately – many from this year alone – so Sinnoh Upgrade is a pretty good one to have. The pattern I got is ok, not the best but also not the worst.

(Last week I got a Field-dominant one which is pretty close to the worst lol. I was gonna post it but I unfortunately lost some footage.)

0:11 – Tech + Support vs. Electric-weak Aaron: EX-R Tierno / EX Marnie / Tech Jolteon

Tech + Support in Area 1 has four possibilities, and funnily enough one of them doesn’t repeat Tech + Support elsewhere in the run. I didn’t want to go all in with my three Tech + Support units here though since NC Calem and especially NC Serena are useful in much harder stages, so I took a gamble and just went with Tierno here. It thankfully paid off.

2:25 – Support + Field vs. Rock-weak Karen: EX-R Variety Thorton / EX Falkner / Lenora

This is one of those cases where I still don’t know the full pattern by Area 2, and this time only one of the two remaining possibilities repeats Support + Field. This one’s a bit easier to decide on though as while V Thorton is on-theme, he’s not someone I’d specifically use in later stages. Falkner let me skip out on using Thorton’s TM in case I was gonna use him in the next stage while Lenora provided Sp Def debuffs.

4:06 – Strike + Sprint vs. NC Hop: EX-R SC Barry / Gloria / EX Spring May

I was hoping to get a Strike + Tech stage for SC Barry (especially since he’s on-theme) but alas. This stage was pretty brutal but it was funny to see Barry’s Speed debuffs actually put in the work.

6:02 – Tech + Support vs. Electric-weak Acerola: EX Gladion / EX Volkner / EX Classic Giovanni

Of course, after using Marnie in Area 1 since I wanted to use two rivals, I get an actual Electric-weak stage that favors physical damage. I went with Gladion instead and used Volkner as an enabler.

8:27 – Tech + Field vs. Malva: EX-R SST Red / Lt. Surge / Darach

This is the Battle Challenge from Grusha’s event earlier this year, and thankfully Darach is an on-theme pick that addresses most of its gimmicks. SST Red is SST Red so he allowed me to be flexible with the last slot – I went with Surge for the Sp Atk debuffs and master passive boost.

11:03 – Strike + Sprint vs. Ice-weak Agatha: EX-R SS Gladion / EX-R Penny / EX Fantina

SS Gladion + Penny is a good core, and in any other situation that third slot would go to SS Wally. Since this is Rally though, I went with Fantina instead for her gauge refill and Sp Def debuffs.

13:13 – Field + Sprint vs Ghost-weak Agatha: EX Event Victor / EX Riley / EX-R NC Rosa

Was wary of this stage but thankfully got a very easy opponent. NC Rosa is the best unit for Battle Rally and you genuinely cannot convince me otherwise. I didn’t use her Sing build since I didn’t want to just cheese this fight (which is hilarious in hindsight considering what I do in the next stage) and she still carried the team.

16:25 – Tech + Support vs. Striaton brothers: EX-R NC Serena / EX-R NC Calem / EX SS Cyrus

This is one of the battle challenges from the teatime special costume event and it is SO annoying. Constant debuffs, strong moves from different types, and for NC Serena specifically she doesn’t like that it favors physical damage. Thankfully it doesn’t have Resilience so I brought in SS Cyrus to just cheese it and get it over with.

19:26 – Strike + Sprint vs. Lucky Area: EX-R NC Silver / EX Hugh / EX Wally

Second time I’ve ever gotten one, and at the best area to get it too. I unfortunately already used one of my Strike+Sprint units in an earlier stage, but this does allow me to run this absolute banger of a team.

20:10 – Strike + Field vs. Argenta: EX-R Akari / EX-R NC Silver / EX-R NC Blue

I was hoping I could use both Akari and Geeta for this, but neither of them have anything against Argenta, and that third slot can’t account for all of it. So I went with just Akari since she gives the Sinnoh Upgrade boost. I used the NC Blue + NC Silver core against this stage in the SC Barry video I recently posted, and this is pretty much the same idea except with less damage. It took me a while to get the right timing for that 50% switch, and more and more I appreciate the new option of being able to see the opponent’s HP percentage.

(In all of my attempts I also never saw Akari activate Potion MPR lmao it would’ve been helpful for sure)
