How2 Variety Lorelei in Champion Stadium [Pokemon Masters EX 3.5K+ Offtype Clears]

In today’s episode of this stupid idiot continuing the silly endeavor of showcasing obscure/bad/rarely showcased pairs… we have Variety Lorelei. This video was in the making for a long time new because I literally couldn’t find a non LG video of the poor woman and I really like her design, so well, back to How2 Videos again.

Variety Lorelei is essentially budget Argenta, and basically Argenta before Argenta existed as the first user that provided distributed, on demand endure with similar buffing profiles and traits. She was very much an LG only unit for much of her history (of course, being one of earliest variety units doesn’t help given how many people hate the banner concept), where the lower powerlevel allowed her to grind a decent number of LGs without much pressure due to excellent durability traits, debuff access, and essentially having no real gauge concerns alone. This unfortunately placed her under the radar in the other modes where she can do a surprising amount of work if she wants to.

Take note that my Lorelei has 6 expanded energy for LG purposes.

Let’s start with something Variety Lorelei can do that Argenta *can’t*: Emergency Barrier and Initial Synchro Healing 1. This gives Variety Lorelei the ability to actually help her allies take syncs due to her robust defensive traits and some small healing; Argenta can only really throw Max Guard at someone else or herself, while V Lorelei also has Protect for even more short term durability. This makes post sync abusers, namely stuff like Gloria or Sygna Suit Leon, excellent abusers of these traits; having lucked out on the third Gloria dupe for Head Start, I could abuse a turn 1 ramp within a tight minus 3 CD window and get even more greedy points to abuse, especially against Unova Grimsley, who has inflated health (making him essentially a Sinnoh/Kalos stage bulk wise). Timing Steel Zones were important in this stage as Grimsley himself is steel, while paying attention to the move order is also important to make the most out of Recharging Strike due to the lack of speed buffs beyond Fleet Feet.

2:20 Standard Greed (3.5k)

This is more standard but essentially inferior to what Argenta hashes out primarily due to its lack of stacks, but does edge out in terms of setup spee due to compressing crit, defense and Endure. Even against special attacking stages, Endure + Protect allows Variety Lorelei to reliably take at least two hits and allow the team to survive, which facilitates fast, aggressive clears. SS Diantha + Gordie is a surprisingly good burst combo due to how the latter complements the former’s Cakewalk scaling while also having a Max Move for burst; V. Lorelei’s Defense buffs also allow Diantha to scale off Scholar’s Sync 5, which would otherwise be hard within the ramp window due to her cycles.

4:21 Debuffer (3.5k)
Team Comp: https://ng-pomatools.web.app/team?v0=020200027200&s0=1&l0=140&r0=6&p0=0&a0=13010602&t0=44444&x0=true&g0=AAECAwQFDA0ODxASFxgZGyAhIiMpKissLS4&v1=000500009100&s1=3&l1=150&r1=6&p1=0&a1=15010301&t1=44444&g1=AAECAwQFBhESFRcZGhwmKSorLQ&v2=024900083400&s2=5&l2=140&r2=6&p2=0&a2=13010602&t2=4444&g2=AAECAwQFBggKDQ4VFhcaHSAu

Variety Lorelei is not a good debuffer, and this video was mostly just to showcase that capacity while also just putting my lucky Dahlia up for a test. Nevertheless, she can help with Relentless or Cakewalk scaling, albeit only against isolated targets. Marshal being more physically bulky and the health params chosen also gives a good opportunity to bring back Nessa, an old favorite, with her incredibly scaling nuke that so happens to synergize with Lorelei’s debuffs; however, her problems, namely the gauge being horrible without lucky rebuffs, becomes more apparent, especially given the move gauge parameter. I ran Adrenaline instead of Head Start here due to the tougher gauge and Revenge Boost (yes, I run both HS and Adrenaline on most of my supports)
