This week it is catch cup for both great league and little cup

I love it, stuck at 2100 because I am new and only have 4 built pokemon. Annihilape, Mandi, Dragalge, Quag, Shadow Champ, Mantine and close to finished #2 Stunfisk Galarian and a #5 Trev. Assuming no top 20 removed for this? I definitely haven't been grinding either, well expect for in Go Battle.
I agree with Annihilape but Trev is even easier to get with transferring so probably lots of it too.
I'm sticking to the 500cp battles. At least it's interesting.
I think great League will basically stay the same as far as Pokemon available and used in the meta
I have mantine, anni and steelix that I can still use. Worked well in the remix GL too.
I have built 3 pokemon this season lol, and 2 of them are for little cup😅
I think Mantine and Mandibuzz will be very common pokemon for this catch cup, so buildin a anti flyer could work. Maybe i’ll build my shadow Bastiodon for this cup

I don't have a great community to trade with, but that could be an option for you to trade this weekend. I also like the idea of using diverse non-optimal move pokemon. Also it would be great for you to focus on pokemon that are going to take out annihlape, registeel, that grass knot cress that everyone got in research. That last one is the content that I need.
Catch cup is really fun when you are a new player, then it feels like game is punishing you for not building the same pokemons you already own.

If you’re playing to climb, you have to spend dust, if not just have fun. You can always just skip the cup. The cup benefits in ways more: basically OgL meta with significantly less shadows/legendaries
Not a single popular YouTuber touched on Little Catch Cup. Makes me sad. I spent since March 1st building a Little Catch team
I’m on the verge of not playing this dumbass game anymore.. not only do you have to deal with lag and game freezes but I change my team and face double electric 3 times in a row. Then I change it and I see double Charm back to back. Shit is zero fun anymore, all it does it put me in a bad mood! Fuck Niantic!
I built my level 50 carbink this season so I’ll be having fun with that in the catch cup 😂
I was a returning player in the last quarter of the last season. I guess they didn't really factor in that when doing catch cup. My resources were nil and I had absolutely nothing to play, making the entire week a wash.
you could run an annihilape regi core. its popular enough in UL, might be ok in GL too.
Mons you’re likely to see in the carch cup:
Annihlape, Mandibuzz, Mantine, Shadow Feraligator, Victribell, Incineroar, Registeel, Ferrothorn, Gligar, Steelix and Stunfisk.
The top 3 common ones I feel will be Annihlape, Mandibuzz, and Mantine.
I tested out my Catch Cup team last night and went 7-3. Based on the Mons mentioned in these comments, I feel like i'm going to be fine. Every team is going to have Ape, a flyer or two (Mantine and Mandi), and maybe Regi. Plan ahead.
just go grab some jigglypuffs and things like that, ittl cost 50k stardust, super easy to get budget mons for this week

Catch cup is basically just spoofer cup
I don't have a single top 50 pokemon for either of these cups. This league is made for the ones who live in cities with high spawn rates. Screw us country folk who only see maybe a couple pokemon spawn, and the ones that do spawn have the worst iv's and it's the only one of that mon that you'll see for a while. They should at least keep great or ultra cup in rotation during these stupid catch cups.
I would love to hear your opinion on whats a "good enough" rank IV to invest in, instead of holding out for better. I usually try to hold out for top 50, but sometimes that can get frustrating and i wonder what the actual return on grinding for a better rank is(do you actually pickup more wins or not)
I like catch cup, but ofc it's largely cause I only started playing this game last summer and only started doing gbl last fall. I think my upward trajectory has been very rapid though, and going into a season I always stock up on decent mons, even if I already have them built. Idk, I like it– it's a far more interesting twist than just straight open. 😊
I love catch cup… I feel like the only one. It’s a chance to use what I’ve built, and to have a bit of a mix-up in the Pokemon I’ll see.
I play pogo for about 2 hrs total during the weekend and regularly catch my home spawns and i have much more to choose from in comparison to what you've shown. Not to be too negative here Dan but it looks like you played an hour all this season 😅 Wish you luck
I think its more about planning ahead. I caught around 2k pokemon in the last 73 days because I didnt transfer any because I had space. I play very casually thats like 27 pokemon a day. Basically me checking on my lunch at work or in the morning etc with some other days I do get to catch a handful.
I checked and I have a Wigglytuff that I can make for the low price of 0 dust for single moved charmer or 10k for the 2nd move. Same with Altaria and Whimsicott at only the cost of candies. Bad IVs but whatever just candies right?
I did build Annhilape so I am just going to go Ape+double charm.

I just had my personal best day ever at 19-6 in the Catch Cup. Shockingly, my plan worked.

Unpopular opinion, it's a good thing for GBL to be rewarded for their outside of the battle skills/financial resources. I wallet checked people in Master League to expert and I am glad that I can get a stress-free method of obtaining GBL exclusive costumes and not be subject to the awful game mechanics of Open Great League and how it seems rigged and you don't have agency over decisions. At least in money leagues, I can reliably know that at a certain ELO range, the player on average does not have the financial resources to participate meaningfully in Master League.

2 years ago I came back after quitting in 2016. The catch cup that season was actually great for for me. Sure, if you grind you also can build up a good team. But still, that don't take away the benefits for new people. Because in every other cup they have to compete even more with the grinders.
