Really enjoyed it, wish more games had African Mythology

  2. MightyMukade

The interview with him on a Friends Per Second podcast a few weeks ago was really excellent. People should watch that. He is a genuine lover of games who wanted to make his own game to celebrate the medium and personal subject matter that was very important to him.

But in all seriousness, people talk about “Cancel Culture TM”, but what is that if it *isn’t* targeted harassment campaigns by people wanting not just *you* to disappear but anybody like you who follows in your footsteps?

There’s two things I know about this game.

    1. For some reason everytime it was brought up people would cry about Baby Inc or something with that name and nobody would explain what’s wrong with that company except woke.

    2. The guy who presented this at the Game Awards is a Kingdom Hearts fan so that’s why I bought it but haven’t gotten to it yet.

  4. DreadnaughtHamster

Looks like a beautiful game and I saw him talk about the heartfelt reason he made it. Why the hell is he getting harassed?

  5. BrockandOnix

I going to buy this game, just to support the studio. There should be more games like this.

  6. Awkward-Shake-1029

Sweet Baby Inc. had it’s dirty hands on this game, which is why it’s getting harassed. I’m not a fan of Sweet Baby Inc. but a game like this doesn’t deserve to be constantly targeted by people who get upset and that need to get a life. Go after the wretched company that decided to involve itself with this game, not the devs or the game itself.

its fucking stupid this demand for every game and every character to have white characters in them, at this point i want gaming to be even more diverse just so these people go away. if gaming liiterally died tomorrow i dont think i would mourn too much cause of idiots like this

  8. I think him and his team got swept up in the BS SBI hunters, the story of why he wanted to create this game in the 1st place is kinda beautiful imo and this is just sad.

  9. zenith2nadir

I really enjoyed this game. Sad to hear Abubakar Salim being harassed over it. He’s an awesome dude, and neither he nor this game deserve negativity.

“Rah, rah, rah! They only put in non-white characters because they are pandering!”

OK so? At least that means there are actually non-white characters around now, which 20 years ago was definitely not the case

  11. HyruleSmash855

It’s not really pandering though since it features, African mythology. Why would there be a white person in that game? That makes the outrage look even more stupid, the characters fit the setting. The creative director of the game studio is also black, so there really isn’t any pandering. This is so stupid that people are angry about this or go out of their way to worry about it, just don’t consume the media you don’t like and move on.

Ethnicity or not, I didn’t like it much. It was nice most moves were unlocked from the start but 2 hours in it felt monotonous af. Terrible visuals on Switch and 30fps didn’t help. The new Prince of Persia destroys this game and looks so much better while running at 60fps.
    Metroidvania saturation anyone?

  13. spillybob

People are sick of things being called a diverse story. It’s the identity politics people are tired of. If it was just a game set in Africa or had Africa characters then one one would give a shit. It’s the constant talk of being a diverse group or diverse game. Enough already

  14. mando44646

Go figure. Conservative jerkwads have an issue with a black developer

  15. EthanTheNintendoFan

You hear that guys? Bullying devs lowers the price of games!

  16. thegame18894

Let’s not give these asswipes any more clicks, leave our developers alone

  17. One_Win_6185

I’m excited to play this. Between Prince of Persia, this, and Animal Well there’s a lot of fun Metroidvanias out now.

  18. Narfhole

If you don’t like SBI, don’t buy games they’re involved in. Don’t have to harass to make that point, just vote with your wallet.

  19. RayDeezNutz

I loved this game but shortly after starting it was free on PlayStation and looked/played wayyyyy better

  20. I loved this game, it’s great, not too hard, and a joy to play. It is a bit linear, but the themes of the story are really good.

  21. neilydan89

I saw that the game was on sale earlier today. Thanks to reading this shitty article about something that shouldn’t be happening, I bought the game 4 times today. A digital copy for myself on my Switch, 2 more digital copies for each of my two brother’s Switch consoles, and a 4th digital copy for my nephew on his Switch.

( I had to digitally let my bank know that those 4 identical purchases were in fact authorized and made by me, and not some scammer or thief while paying for the 3rd copy.)

People are so lame, which is sad because being nice or just keeping your mouth shut/not saying or typing hateful bullshit is such an easy thing to NOT do.

  22. Bladeteacher

Im buying It soon,i thought when i saw the trailer the Game was very hype and lets fucking face It boys,WE NEED new visual elements, narrative elements, unfamiliar concepts,i know jackshit from a lot of african countrys  culture and im very interested,i played so many metroidvanias and we been stuck in caves and medieval western sword and Magic or scifi planetland for decades at this point. Also, music from the trailer??!!👌👌👌

  23. CowardlyLion_

The headline just makes it sound like he lowered the price of the game because he got harassed so much

  24. plaidflatcap

I was willing to pay full price. Is there a charity Abu supports that I can donate the balance (plus some more)?

  25. Greedy_Librarian_983

Save your money for nine sols, it’s much better metroidvania game. And. The developer are banned in China because they from Taiwan and mock Winnie the xi.

  26. hermanbloom00

Obviously not the best way to find out about his game, but now I have and it looks neat and I will be picking it up. So hopefully he can take at least this tiny, minuscule positive from the situation.

  27. Just a note, this game is not really a “metroidvania”, it’s more of an action platformer that focuses on the story (a son trying to save his father from the god of Death). This is a story first, gameplay second game, do not expect it to be the next Metroid game or something. (I loved the story and it accomplished the goal of telling it beautifully)

  28. Such a shame. Looks like such a passion project and the game looks like a metroidvania, and a good one at that! It’s just not my type of game. Never finished any of them really.

I hate this trend globally of extremes. One side being extremist in pushing the agenda to the point of forcefeeding it to spectators so much that plot and scenarios suffer from it, and the other side hating anything that has a minority lead character without knowing anything about it. And all the people in between suffering the consequences of this stupid behavior.

  29. SkoomaSteve1820

Fuck I don’t know if it’s any good but I just went and bought it on switch to help offset the racist crap. People are fucking insane. It’s a personal passion project from the director. It’s so sad to see them receiving such abuse.

  30. Still_Schedule7

These same people who decry Assassin’s Creed Shadows for having a black and female protagonist. The term “DEI” is also something they spew out whenever they’re talking about “wokeism.”
