I never knew if you have only one pokemon left on your side, you can just intentionally waste an attack at hitting nothing. I always assumed that your attacks will always be redirected at your opponent similarly to selecting an empty tile on the opposing side when they have one pokemon left.
Haven't been tuning into VGC lately, why is blastoise running hydro cannon in the first place?
Why would anybody run regular blastoise with hydro cannon. It’s so bad
When you target a partner who’s not there, doesn’t the game automatically shift your target to the Pokemon that is there?
Aren't attacks redirected to the other mon when you select an empty space ? Thats a thing right?

Thats not how the game works. If their isnt a second pokemon on the field in doubles you will always attack the solo pokemon.
