Design critique/suggestions desired
Sort of a repost because either realized I can ask for critiques. I like the overall design of my fakemon but feel the color schemes are a little too busy and Elfantom could be simplified a little maybe. I’m also not 100% in love with all the colors so I’d welcome critiques and suggestions. I’d also welcome any suggestions for abilities, moves, etc as I’m working to fully flesh this out for a TTRPG. My design notes and Pokédex entries are below
Wisprit: the fascination pokemon
Based on: willowisps; sprites, moretta masks; jellyfish, any number of small collectible fairies from various video games.
What appears to be a small, humanoid body is actually structured more similarly to a humanoid hand which whisprit uses to hold onto tree branches during the day and in strong winds. It is during particularly violent storms that it may come into conflict with Chimecho for real estate.
They communicate using a combination of flickering the lights on their heads, waving their ribbon like appendages, and making whispering sounds that sound like distant conversation. They take great pleasure in watching others at a distance and relaying their observations to each other and this has led to them unintentionally leading people astray as they try to maintain their distance from humans following their flickering lights and murmuring voices.
They possess a unique ability to copy words heard, albeit in an echoic, whispering tone. Those that have heard it have mistaken these noises for other people and gotten lost following these voices into the woods.
These pokemon possess the ability to dampen sounds around them to better observe targets. If the forest suddenly becomes deathly Silent a great number of Wisprits may have taken interest in you.
Its sound dampening habits and range puts it into conflict with chimecho. Fortunately they don’t often come into contact with each other except during foul weather.
Their voices have a strange echoing quality that sounds much louder at a distance than up close. This feature along with the soft light they emit has caused humans to use that as sleep aids for children.
Elfantom: the displacement pokemon
Based on: dark elves; phantom thieves, house spirits; grey aliens and hopskinville goblins,
This nimble Pokémon is constantly “finding” things which it becomes highly focused on only to put them down and replace them with its latest obsession. Because most items are recovered without trouble and this Pokémon’s otherwise gregarious nature it has been called the “fun time thief”.
This pokemon is known to “find” objects and then either “find” better places for it or “find” a better item to go in its place. If you find items going missing and later appearing where you least expect them an Elfantom may have “found” its way into your house
They may use their sharp, scissor like digits to cut objects they fancy loose from their surrounding so they may admire them though they rarely keep them for long. In forests this may cause trees and other landmarks to become drastically altered which can cause distress for hikers. In homes an unsuspecting sleeper may wake up with a drastically altered hair style.
It is constantly trying to improve upon its surroundings by rearranging objects in visually interesting ways and enjoys making small totems from debris it has found. This can cause conflict with Pokémon that collect things such as sableye and tinkaton.
The totems it creates from debris are said to be good or ill omens depending on the region in which they are found. These Pokémon usually do not mind others taking or altering its art as a form of collaboration but those it feels are defacing its territory will find many a nasty trick played on them.
Always curious of novelty. These pokemon take great interest in human items and campers may wake up to find all their equipment laid out in intricate patterns but very little taken or damaged. To combat this, toys and other items of interest may be intentionally left out over night for Elfantom to play with.
Specteldritch: the delusion Pokémon.
Based on: banshees and fairy wives; plague masks; gargoyles; sidhe; moth
man;Cthylla from hp lovecraft and mooncalves from dnd; vampire squids: various Filipino aswang
These Pokémon are most active at twilight and at night and will often spend their time during the day perfectly still. They will occasionally fly into towns and observe people from the tops of buildings all day and return to their homes at night to tell stories to others of their kind. It is rumored that their DNA has more similarities to humans than any other pokemon.
They take great interest in the comings and goings of humans and may become attached to a particular human that has caught their eye which they will attempt to track over several days. Despite their frightening appearance there have been reports of them rescuing the people they observe from potential attacks or accidents, seemingly predicting that they would happen, and then flying off never to be seen again.
These strange pokemon live in hidden and hard to reach spots in deep forests and mountains. They have been found to collect discarded manmade objects and may take residence in abandoned, isolated buildings where they imitate human behavior. They may appear to humans as familiar faces but the illusion is never quite right.
They possess a strange ability to manipulate light using the pink lights at the end of their limbs and create disorienting sound waves from the slits in their heads which can affect the perceptions and memories of humans. They use these abilities to keep humans away from their homes and may cause humans to flee the forest dazed and distressed but usually unharmed.
These pokemon are known to take people away only to return them a few days later unharmed. Those abducted in this manner are unable to recall what happened and instead have distorted memories of being immediately returned and going about their everyday lives during the time they were missing though note a dream like wrongness to it. Sick and injured people who are taken return miraculously healed
Several may appear before a natural disaster occurs; some saving people, some carrying people off for unknown reasons, some merely watching. Those that attack it and interrupt its observation are cursed with a severe wasting disease.
