Pokemon cutscenes are a rare breed. Now many existed in the older gens.

  2. GlobinG_SilvallyYnT

As far as GBA and DS cutscenes go these aren’t that far out there tbh

  3. Bcs it was event exclusive, I have never seen the Arceus cutscene before. It almost feels edited. So different, so unique.

  4. That emerald cutscene had my heart beating like a mf at 9 years old, one of my all time favorite pokemon experiences for sure

  5. jasonjr9

I never saw the Arceus event as a kid. But if I had, it probably would have scared the shit out of me.

  6. Head-Iron-9228

    Giratinas appearence in platinum tho.

    Like damn.

  7. Basic-Theme1515

That GBA cutscene is amazing and pushes the hardware to its limits

That DS one is low res JPEGs that completely insult what the system is capable of. Would’ve been much better off making this meme with the Distortion World cutscene from Platinum, or literally anything else from gen 5

For comparison, in Gen 7 they couldn’t animate a gate opening, so when you open a gate in Hau’oli city the screen awkwardly fades to black while your character is teleported to the other side.

  9. Tall_Rip3899

remember when the series “upgraded” to 3D?

  10. SouthernBaseball2239

Looks a lot better then nowadays in my opinion

  11. Lmfao I love the unexpected ace combat OST. Two biggest series from my childhood tbh

  12. Dangerous_Jacket_129

R/S/E walked so HG/SS could run.

  13. agent_whorange

Now I already love Agnus Dei but mixing it with Gotye works better than expected. Impressive

imagine meeting god in an ancient ruin, where he gives you visions of a dimension beyond your comprehension, and then he gives you a dragon egg

  15. Eclipse_58008

Am I wrong in saying these aren’t that amazing? I mean, from a technical standpoint anyway. I could be off, but these just seem like a bunch of pixel art and moving sprites. Not exactly mind-blowing to see these produced on the hardware they were on.

However, yes. The art and direction for these scenes are very strong.

  16. IronChugJugulis

Bro showed every IRL pics in the world to give u an Egg based Arsus 💀

  17. EinkeksigeEule

I also loved the cutscene of reshiram’s awakening in black. Cutscenes like that just really underline the legendary status of a pokemon.

  18. I really wanted to see the rayquaza scene in Oras lol. Delta scene was pretty good though

  19. SubRedGit

Rayquaza scene – custom pixel art specifically for the cutscene

    HGSS Arceus scene – custom pixel art and **J P E G s**

  20. Hey now, don’t be too harsh on them, they’re just a small indie developer.

  21. Bros reaction time was a bit slow after Arceus summoned and rearranged the whole fucking universe

  22. IlIlllIlllIlIIllI

Damn they really figured out how to tell you that Arceus is god

  23. FertilityFapper

Still think it’s crazy what gen 5 did on the ds the pinnacle of the spritework

  24. Bolt_Fantasticated

The cutscene in Black 2 where the bad guys freeze an entire town with a freeze laser aboard a giant airship. That seen always stuck to me.

  25. throwawaybyefelicia

That Arceus cutscene was like a biblically accurate PowerPoint or something, creeped me out so much when I was younger haha

  26. JackOLoser

The DS could do some really impressive things graphically speaking. Look at the sprite work in the DS remakes of the Dragon Quest games. The phase-changing with Psaro in IV is crazy.

  27. I was one of the lucky few who somehow had an Arceus and got to see this cut scene. You can tell this was someone’s special project because something such a small percentage of players would see surely wouldn’t be worth all that effort.

  28. laserofdooom

Meanwhile sword (the eternatus cutscene was cool tho)
