Fakemon

Zemifon, the elusive Fakemon

I kept myself up at night drawing this little guy 😭

Zemifon is a Dragon/Flying type Pokemon that lives in the northern part of my fan region, Yurosa.
It is inspired mostly by gryphons and dragons, bearing the attributes of eagles, lions and dragons (although the only lion feature is the front feet being paws). It is loosely based on Zmei and Azhdaya (hydra-like dragons from Slavic mythology) although it lacks the multiple heads. I was just thinking to include a European-style dragon Fakemon in the region because of these legendary creatures. The reason I made it a gryphon is also because of Azhdaya; although it is not a gryphon, one medieval depiction of Azhdaya includes wings that have feathers, yet are webbed at the end.

Its name combines Zmei, myth and gryphon.

Many of these Pokemon live at the top of the mountains of Northern Yurosa, in crevices and caves so difficult to reach that its existence was doubted by Pokemon professors until 20 years ago. For this reason they are cautious around humans and can be dangerous to approach without appropriate preparation, especially when their mothers are nearby. Their hostility was the reason why the first writers and poets who wrote of it, in what used to be called legends, portrayed it as malevolent or even as an evil spirit.
