Ice I think grushna. I keep thinking Wulfric is a dragon trainer for some reason.

Ghost I would give to gen 6 hexmanic. She’s like the unofficial representative of the ghost type. But alister is not bad either.

Grass I’d probably give to mallow.

Psychic I think you visually made the right pick, but Sabrina will always be the first to come to my mind for psychic.

The rest I can agree with and are pretty solid.

  2. infinitycore

I would go with Grant or Brock for rock as I never remember that Roark is rock, Elesa for electric, Drayden for dragon, Roxie for poison, and Mina for fairy, otherwise pretty good choices

  3. rirasama

I agree with most, but I think Grant for rock

  4. Pure_Spyder

Larry was so perfect to me just being an average Joe, just a cog in a machine

  5. Ok-Speed7740

I like this trend you are setting.

For poison I cannot help but think of Klara being a great representative. Her colourful and sweet appearance belying a somewhat obnoxious and haughty demeanour. She’s like a walking example of aposematism, that event where brightly coloured plants and animals tend to be poisonous and inedible.

  6. Franco_Fernandes

I like Marlon, but I wish his tan was colored better. It doesn’t look like a tan, it looks like a skin tone. Ruined his gimmick. Also, Jellicent? For an athletic competitive swimmer? Come on.

One day Bruno will get off the floor.

    One day…

    – Marlon is better than the food-water trainers (Cress, Siebold, and Kofu.) and above Juan & Crash.

But his design isn’t more water than Nessa, Lana, or Misty’s Gen 2 design.

I’d probably give water to the region “with too much” that gave us a sailor who rose from best gym leader to Champion or the Pirate boss whose life goal is good real estate means more water.

    – Ice Trainer’s designs imo improved greatly after (Gen 7) with Melony and Grusha.

    – I also feel like Mela & Crispin might be good contenders for Fire but I like Kiawe too.

    – I would pick Grant for Rock.

  9. Larry is perfect for normal types and since all but one or two flying types have a second type (normal being the most common), flying still fits him

  10. kagutsuchi_0

I would just change drayden for dragon, the rest is perfect

I’d pick Sabrina over Olympia for Psychic easily.

Olympia is shown to be a powerful psychic user, but Sabrina is a prodigy of untold proportions. Her father was a powerful psychic, and he was scared shitless of Sabrina. She could just be sitting chillaxing and force choke a dude a football field away with ease. Girl could literally turn people into dolls and use them as her plaything if she so chose. Not to mention, in nearly every depiction of her, she just looks primed and ready to mentally force you to conduct an appendectomy on yourself.

Then you look at teams, and again, it’s not even close. Olympia has all of THREE pokemon in Slowking, Meowstic and Sigilyph. They’re not *bad* mons, but let’s look at what Sabrina has in her arsenal:

Alakazam, Espeon, Gallade, Hypno, Jynx, Exeggutor, a f*cking METAGROSS!!!, Venomoth…not a psychic mon, but ok…Mr. Mime…that’s female…Mrs…Mime? Okay.

Hell, in BW2, she’s sporting a GODDAMN MEWTWO!

Olympia may have a pretty wrinkled brain, but Sabrina’s brain is looking like Palpatine after his fight with Mace Windu. More wrinkles on it than a Klingon’s forehead.

    Plus…I CAN FIX HER GUYS!

All I can say is… I always thought Larry would be a Dark type Gym Leader. 😂😂😂

  13. L_Rayquaza

    Honestly gotta disagree with Lance

Drayden’s facial hair giving him a dragon maw just hits something fierce

  14. onepostandbye

Lance is the most famous Dragon trainer, but that’s not what you are looking for, is it? Drayden personifies the dragon trainer ideal more than anyone.

  15. i’m sorry but erika is quintessential grass. she’s so archetypal

  16. KarmaTheEgg

The only two I disagree with are Lance and Roark

I’d replace Roark with Tyme, and Lance with Drasna or Dreyden

  17. delspencerdeltorro

I gotta vote Grimsley for Dark. He has the fit, the room, the dialogue, and no weird voiceless singing.

  18. ThistleFaun

Clay and his style is embedded in my mind as ‘ground type’. As soon as I noticed Rika’s tie looked a bit like a bolo tie, I assumed she had to be a ground type user.

  19. Docterzero

Decent choices overall, would go with Nessa for water tho and somebody other than Lance for dragon

  20. nimblehammer159

for Water type it has to be Wallace

  21. KafeiTomasu

Agree with most, except for dragon and ice. On both accounts; Unova did it better (specifically iris for dragon)

  22. acetrainer-icarus

    Sydney for dark types,
    Caitlyn for Psychic types,
    Grant for rock types

    Jutifying my answers:

Ramos-Grass type: first of all, he’s a gardener and he’s always carrying his shears. Also, he looks like a nice elder guy, perfect for grass type.

Kiawe-Fire type: fiery hair, fiery personality, and HE LIVES IN A VOLCANO. Nothing better for fire type than an alolan captain.

Marlon-Water type: he’s a swimmer, wears neoprene pants with fins and his hair is shaped like a fin.

Clemont-Electric type: first of all, he’s a scientist (and you can actually see it in his design). He’s blonde and has this little lighning shaped lock and also the Heliolisk parabolic in his backpack.

Larry-Normal type: most normal type specialists are intentionally plain. Larry takes that to the next level and THAT’S why we love him.

Bugsy-Bug type: long ago, bug-catcher was a Pokémon class, and Bugsy is their king. Also LOOK AT HIM, HE’S SO SMOL <3

Winona-Flying type: the pilot gogles, the wings in her outfit, the skyblue jumpsuit… if there was a Flying type eevee, it would look like her.

Bruno-Fighting type: half of the fighting type specialists are martial artists. Bruno is THE martial artist. I mean, LOOK AT HIM. Just give him a white vest and he would be Ryu from SF.

Olympia-Psychic type: most psychic type specialists try to look mystical or supernatural, and among all of them, Olympia does it the best. Not only she’s an actual seer, she also brings the outer space aesthetic to his outfit, which also fits into the Psychic type.

Allister-Ghost type: Allister is the one of the very few ghost type specialist who actually feels ghostly. The mask, the way he’s always crooked, the fact that he’s a freaking kid, its all so creepy, and thats why he gets the gold.

Clay-Ground type: among the ground type specialists, Clay is the only one who actually gives any ground type vibes. He’s so cartoonishly Texan is hard to imagine him not living in the desert digging for oil or coal or driving a dusty car. He also carries a shovel most of the time (in anime mostly).

Roark-Rock type: i had a hard time (pun not intended) picking between him and Grant for this type. Grant has more rocky elements in his appareance, but Roark also does in a more subtle not-so subtel way. Wearing his miner outfit, being an archeologist and fossil expert, he looks like the kind of guy who spends most of the time either inside a cave or surrounded by rocks. Also, Grant feels kinda lanky for rock type… as for Brock, cmon guys, he looks like just some guy.

Wulfric-Ice type: Wulfric… is a freaking viking. He’s huge, he’s muscular, he’s hairy, he has some lard and he wears a heavy coat he doesnt even need because the cold doesnt even bother him anyway. Compared to him, Grusha looks like he’s freezing. If this was picking my fave, i’d chose Melony, but… Wulfric embodies ice type better in my opinion.

Atticus-Poison type: ninjas have been a thing in poison type ever since gen 1, and Atticus brings them back in such a funny way. His outfit is so colorful and yet it tries to mimic camouflage aestetic, feels like an actual poisonous mushroom or a pile of toxic waste. Also how he’s basically a big ninja’s nerd probably makes him a toxic fan.

Lance-Dragon type: i know, i know he has so few dragon type Pokémon in his team, but that was gen 1 and 2, it doesnt count. Honestly, Draiden was very close of becoming my pick, but i cant unsee how epic Lance looks. That spiky hair that resembles horns, that cold defiant stare, the outfit that feels like came from a medieval fantasy world, and the cape. THE CAPE. I CANT UNSEE THE CAPE.

Wikstrom-Steel type: i almost picked Steven for this, but Wikstrom gets the gold. He’s the only steel type specialist that is actually ironclad, he’s a knight in full armor.

Piers-Dark type: this was a close one. Honestly, if it wasnt for the redesign they gave to Grimsley, i’d probably picked him. But Piers feels more fitting for dark type in a way that… he looks so cartoonishly edgy. Let’s be real guys, most of us probably had dark type Pokémon in our teams at some point just because of the edginess, and Piers brings that up so well. He looks like he’s trying so hard to be intimidating is kinda cringe, in a silly way. Also love the fact that he’s actually a good guy with an eery appareancy, like many dark type pokemon.

Valerie-Fairy type: with eyes like those, that girl is NOT human. I refuse to believe otherwise. She’s probably a changeling or something. Also, all the pink and butterfly wings in her design.
