Happy New Year!
Taking the phrase “new year, new me” as inspiration, what would You do to realistically buff Pokémon to make them better?
Some Pokémon are in desperate need of a higher base stat total, some would benefit more from a better move pool, others desperately need a better ability, and a few need all of the above.
What if we kept the same Base Stat Total, but redistributed it better?
What are some changes You would make just based on lore?
I.E. Vespiquen and Nidoqueen don’t get Queenly Majesty as an ability???
I would love to see “forgotten” Pokémon shown some love.

I’d make Fairy weak to bug.
I feel like this would open up bug type competitively, if only a bit.
And there is some precedent for insect/fairy interaction.
Ledian
Make it’s attack stat 100, it’s speed 110 and drop it’s sp.def to 85. As well make iron fist can be it’s normal ability with sheer force (I mean clearly what it should have, just look at it) as it’s hidden ability
Also make it a fighting type because really it should be (and I forgot it wasn’t one) and give it a bunch of punch based attacks
I feel like Corsola would need a lot to become viable. G-Corsola only became viable because it had Strength Sap+Will-O-Wisp+Night Shade+eviolite. At the very least it would need a unique item that buffs its defences like eviolite. It would also need Toxic back since that’s its only real way of doing damage
I’d make canon all the changes from Radical Red.
Give Snorlax Slack Off for reliable healing.
The [Sleeping Pokémon] should be able to slack off.
either make dark type not immune to prankster, or make dark type immune to fairy type.
It’s not the quickest read, but I do have a wishlist already written up: https://www.reddit.com/user/Jragon713/comments/1f5o12e/my_ideal_pok%C3%A9mon_patch_notes/
I’m not sure if competitive viability in and of itself is all that valuable. You could average every mon’s stats in a similar way to ensure they each have something to bring to the table, but personally I think the goal should be for every Pokemon to have some combination of unique BST, typing, ability, and moveset so that they each have a niche they can exploit, a niche that hopefully ties into their theming and in-universe lore. As a random example, give Rattata’s line an ability that lets fang moves ignore resistance since their teeth will bite through anything. They’ve been designing in this direction more frequently recently given it’s hard to tell a lot of Pokemon apart mechanically otherwise, but I think they could stand to go back and retrofit the vast majority of mechanically superfluous mons with some unique toys.
There are just toamy pokemon that need buffs, that i cant go in detail.
Many of them need more stats and/or better balance of stats, some need just better abillitys and some need better moves.
Ill preface this, im thinking about PURELY vgc balance as its the official comp format.
Slakings passive is changed: instead of not being able to act every other turn, it switches between a “active” and “slaker” state. Active is a normal mode, but in slaker if you use an physical or special move it instead of using the move, heals a minor % of its hp(maybe 6% like leftovers), and consumes the PP. If you use a status move in slaker state it performs it no problem.
This would allow for status moves like protect for vgc or a setup move & gives it minor sustain.
I would also give it taunt if it doesnt have already, so it can prevent protecting on it every other turn to cheese it out of not being able to attack on off turns.
Move a lot of hidden abilities to normal abilities.
So many pokemon kind of rely on a good hidden ability to even be semi-workable, and a lot of them are still weaker than pokemon with the same ability as a normal option.
A good example off the top of my head is Ninetales. Drought on it makes it pretty good, but I’d argue it isn’t *so* much better than Torkoal to justify locking it behind such a rare encounter availability
Type chart only
Water weak to poison
Bug strong and resist fairy
Ice resist Water and is super effective
Electric is strong against steel
Funny you give Corsola + 10 HP/Def/Spdef, cuz that’s exactly what it got in Gen 7.
Give Dodrio any ability. It has 3 non-abilities ATM. My vote would be for Speed boost, but I could see Scrappy working too.
Rapidash HA change to Reckless.
Solrock/Lunatone type change to Rock/Fire and Rock/Fairy respectively (both then become decent checks to Incineroar)
Azelf/ Mesprit/ Uxie to become pure Fairy type.
Illuminate change to work like Intimidate, but for evasion.
Fearow/Unfesant both learn Slash to have a STAB move with increased Crit chance to go with their abilities. Also, Drill Peck to get increased Crit chance for the same reason.
That isn’t even remotely enough to make Corsola even slightly better
Add 2 more good evolutions
