I was playing Pokemon Gold trying to obtain a living dex for all Pokemon on home. I was in the second floor of the Goldenrod Pokemon Center trading with my wife's silver when I saw an NPC behind the counter with the PC.
I have never seen an NPC there before so I talked to him. He said "Are you Gold? I'm supposed to give you a ?!"
Afterwards I have this item called ? in my inventory. It's in the items pocket, has a quantity of 1 and can't be used, but can be registered to the select button.
While registered to select, oak says I can't use this
What is this item, is it a glitch or an event?
