Well given that it is a “desert sentinel” im assuming that it is somewhat linked too an ancient civilisation and possibly a remnant left behind.
I would look to Golurk for inspiration, it also shares many similar ideas so it possible to maybe make this a convergent evolution in a way. But definitely some carbed like patterns would rock
