Pokemon Trading Card Game

We were poor in the 90s. We made our own foils with gel pens. These were in my brother’s binder. He would have been 36 today.

Happy birthday to your brother. I’m glad you still have these awesome cards to reflect on today, that kind of memory makes them priceless

  2. ItchyEarthman

That’s neat as hell, I wish I woulda thought of that when I was a kid

wow this is so cool ! do you mind sharing a story about your brother ?

I wish there were words I could say that you’ve not already heard that would ease the pain. I can only say that I empathize with you and truly hope that you’re on the mend. Talk to people you trust and grieve. Losing people is never easy.

I’m glad you still have memories with him through tangible objects!

This vaguely unlocked some kind of memory of doing something similar with silver pens

You’re a damn good bro. All the love to you, and happy 36th to your brother. What an awesome way to hold your memories of him.

I remember washing my holo Jungle Victreebell with water because I thought it would make the holo shinier lmao

I’m so sorry for your loss, these cards I know are priceless to you. They’re absolutely adorable! If you don’t mind what happened to your brother? And happy birthday to him.

I could never get or afford the big name cards like Charizard or Zapdos. So I would draw pictures of them, and glue them onto my common cards.

Did something similar with my Yu-Gi-Oh cards too.

I’m not clever enough to come up with anything that will make you feel better but damn what a clever idea to foil your own Pokemon cards, I see stuff like THIS and remember that this is what the hobby is all about, that pure fun and nostalgia for something we all love.

It wasn’t about the value of the cards as is often the case in the current 2025, back then the value was in the memories you created with your bro and the creativity to spice up your own cards and make them truly standout. Cheers! 🥂

I used to do the same with gel pins. Specifically remember lt. Surge pikachu and team rocket squirtle

    R.I.P.

They say Logan Paul’s PSA10 Illustrator Pikachu is the most expensive card in the world, yet even that doesn’t compare to how precious these are.

That is so cool and creative. If I saw that as a kid I would’ve done it to a bunch of my cards. Your brother sounds awesome.

Growing up I would draw my own pokemon cards from memory and cut it with saliva and crease folds on the paper.

Man what I would have done for some cards back then. I’m about your brother’s age. Damn.

Cards would be black and white. Had no crayons. Typically would try to get those real estate pads they would leave at your door
