Pokemon

Guys, we need to talk about Shadow Lugia.

Since Nintendo has announced that they are going to release Pokémon XD in the Nintendo Classics, there’s something some people might not realize about Shadow Pokémon. If you’ve played these games, you’ll know it, but if you haven’t, it’s easy to overlook a few key points about these Pokémon.

I would sum it up in one phrase: unlike Pokémon GO, these games really do their best to make sure the player purifies all the Shadow Pokémon they obtain. Why? Because Shadow Pokémon can’t:

  • Level up
  • Evolve
  • Change their moves
  • Be nicknamed
  • Be traded (this might be irrelevant since they haven’t given connectivity to Stadium, and I don’t think they’ll do it with these games either)
  • Participate in Battle Mode
  • Be entered in battles in the Phenac Stadium or the Orre Colosseum.

Fun fact: Shadow Lugia colors were chosen by James Turner, who worked for Game Freak before joining Genius Sonority. He is also responsible for designing several other Pokémon, including Vanilluxe, Mandibuzz, Guzzlord, and Sinistea.
