Plasteel and Ixtoxiku started off as being based on the legend of Ikuchi, a Japanese sea serpent that sinks ships by secreting oil. Plasteel is based on plastics being produced with petroleum and being another form of oceanic pollution. The clear plastic bag is similar to the larval form of eels as well.
Ossitot and Ossitar are based on tar pits. The both are made up of bizarre amalgamations of bones.

Absolutely love the designs – especially Plasteel! It really reminded me of a plastic bag with plastic soda can rings for ears.

Love the early Sugimori art and sprites, too.
