DESCRIPTION: If they find another Thick Club and are taken to a mysterious graveyard, Marowak will fully connect themselves to their ancestors and embody all their strength, evolving into Wakapetrous. The skull once fused only to their heads, now takes over their whole skeleton, causing it to harden into steel!
NAME ORIGIN: It’s the combination of “Whakapapa”* (genealogy, in Maori), “waka” (spiritual medium, in Maori) and “petrous bone” (the hardest bone of the skull and the one to contain the highest concentration of preserved DNA).
*It’s a fundamental concept in Māori culture, linking individuals to their ancestors, the land, and their tribal affiliations.
DESIGN EXPLANATION: It’s based on the fan theory that says that Cubone’s a Charmander who’s wearing the skull of its departed Charizard mother. Also, Cubone looks like [Charmander’s beta sprite](https://x.com/DrLavaYT/status/1199359284951146497). I chose to go for a more classic gen 1 look and not add crazy extra stuff to the design.
If this would be a proper standard evolution for Marowak, then this would be the fit, to complete this 3 stage family.
Also love the artwork of this specimen. Very dragon-like but still staying true to its elemental type roots

The concept of connecting to their ancestors and the name inspiration could also work for Alolan Marowak given the inspiration it takes from Hawaiian Culture and the Nightmarchers of Hawaiian Myth.

I really like the look of the mon but i’m not a fan of the tiny bones tbh, if we’re talking about a third stage I would love for it to be past the bones and have idk boney looking claws or something like that kinda like the mask fused completely with the skull at this point, i know the bone is kinda the pivotal piece of Cubone’s line concept but i think i’d enjoy a third stage that goes past it
