Extinct Regi Species

Some of the first forms of Pokémon life to evolve are Mineral Pokémon. Species like Steelix (Onis ironsnakis), Heatran (Heatrum lavadomis) and Vanilluxe (Vanillitis snowstormis) all have extremely specialized cells that can incorporate inorganic materials (such as minerals, ice and metals) in their bodies.

Part of the Mineral Pokémon are the Golem Pokémon, a group which includes the Royal Golem Pokémon, also known colloquially as the “Regis”.

There are several legends about the “Regis”. Regigigas (Regigigas colossalis) is believed to be the creator of all the other members, and helped shape the world as we know it today. Of course, we now know about plate tectonics and other geological activities.

The Royal Golem Pokémon are believed to be very ancient species, probably some of the first Pokémon to differentiate, some refer to them as “living fossils”. Today these species are on the verge of extinction, only a few individuals have been recorded over the past 20 years, and information on them is scarce.

Recently, new fossilized remains have been described as a new species of Royal Golem Pokémon, and surprisingly it seems to be the only species currently known having two types expressed in its phenotype. Regigneous (Regigneous volcanum) a fire and rock type, has been associated closely to Regirock (Regirockium rockpeakis) and Registeel (Registeelus ironis), as a common ancestor to the two species. It is possible that a group of Regigneous started including iron-rich rocks in their diet, while another group adapted to cooler environments. The drastic reduction of volcanic activities considerably reduced their natural habitats, favoring other species and pushing them to extinction.

Analysis revealed that it was covered in a lava-like fluid which would cool and solidify around specific parts of the body, creating a rocky hide.
