This was inspired by some recent Genlocke posts I've seen, but I've put my own twist on it. The idea is to think about how you would build your team across generations, starting from Gen I. You can base your choices on optimal gameplay or your favorites—it's totally up to you!
As you move to each new generation, you must (i) pick a new starter and (ii) replace at least one team member with a Pokémon from that new generation. Evolving a Pokémon to a new form introduced in that generation also counts (think Umbreon and Scizor, for example).
To spice things up, you can choose a maximum of two starters of the same type (three if you're going all the way to Gen IX). For instance, you could start with Blastoise and Feraligatr, but after that, no more Water-type starters! I've done this up to Gen VI because those are the ones I'm most attached to (and you end up with one Pokémon from each generation), but feel free to take it all the way to Gen IX if you want.
I'm curious to hear your thoughts!
Btw, apologies for my (lack of) artistic skills—just tried to make something visually pleasing! 😀
