Pikachu statue from Pokemon The First Movie Premiere

Figured I'd share a fun piece of Pokemon history that I just unearthed from my garage. Not for sale/trade at the moment.

Backstory: The original printing company (now owned by The Pokemon Company) that handled the early runs of the cards is a couple towns over from me, and one of the former employees apparently saved this from the trash. He kept it as a souvenir for a while and eventually posted it up for sale, and I was lucky enough to grab it. It is missing the tail (notice the two little buttholes on the back,) which was likely thrown away when this was supposed to be thrown away. The original owner mentioned that The Nintendo Company had several of these custom made for use in various stores and promotional settings, and it sounds like this one somehow made its way to the card printer and gathered dust there for some time until it was finally saved. Luckily it stayed in great condition with only very minimal blemishes.

After I got it, it took me a couple years to finally get around to researching it. I had seen other similar Pikachu statues before, but never this exact one. I posted pictures to a kiosk/display community, and through some miracle, the resident Pokemon expert was able to immediately identify it. It was built for and used at the 1999 premiere of Pokemon The First Movie at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

Watching the video, it looks like there was a matching Togepi statue too. Hopefully it was rescued from the dumpster and is now living a happy life in someone's collection!

The next step on Pikachu's journey is a new 3D printed replacement tail so she can finally be whole again.

Dimensions for reference: 32" H, 42" W, 27"
