I noticed this recently, the buddy boost takes it to level 50 and removes the ability to power up. It’s just sloppy coding.

Are you only trainer level 40? If that is the case, you can only power Pokémon to level 50. So you need to un-buddy, power to level 50 and then re-buddy.

Yeah it did this with my florges at lvl 49 as well, best buddies takes it to 50 and the game thinks it’s capped. Funny bug.

It’s a bug with it being “best buddy”. Take it off as your buddy and you can level it up.
