I was hoping to trade some cards locally now that both shipping and card prices have become somewhat prohibitive. A local listing showed this card but also willingness to trade which is rare considering everyone wants cash nowadays. Seeing that there was no trade percentage in the listing I figured might be a reasonable trade. Unfortunately as we continue to talk she wanted to trade for my stuff at 60-70% as though it was an EXPECTED thing and I should have known that all trades are done like this. Like of course I should have known that you're here to price gouge me. Sad experiences…

Meet up then laugh in her face
I had a guy try this after we agreed to meet up, telling me he buys or trades at the local card shop prices. I almost laughed at him because there is no way I’m losing 45% of my value to a peer to peer interaction. At most I’ll be willing to lose 20% to cash or 10% to trade
So much for it being a “Trading” card game
When someone try’s to do percentage with me I tell them that it then needs to be ca d value and not that they get to pick the cards. Cause I’ll trade up 300 bucks in regular exs for a $200 SIR all day. I’m not trading our 3 $100 cards for a $200 card though.
This is where you say “good luck” and move on with your day bud. They’ll sit on their stuff forever
I don’t think she understands what trading actually means, that’s just not how trading works.
I have a feeling this would work on r/choosingbeggars
Plus, she should really charge her phone.
Lmaooooooooooo don’t even get mad dude just have a laugh and let life be her teacher
This whole trading at a percent is so goofy. Everyone thinks they’re a vendor or shop owner, meanwhile they’re just scalping products from target and Walmart just to “sell my prized sealed collection” 2 months later.
Unless you’re a shop owner, vending at a show, or truly have something I want, I’m not trading at a percent.
Lol these percentage games are all a joke.
Tells you that’s not how trading works then describes exactly how trading isn’t done
the whole hobby is a joke at this point what can you expect. people really are inflating the price of cardboard. it’s disgusting
The only time asking for a % off is ok is if you’re trading something they don’t technically want/need. If two traders each have a card the other trader really wants, then yea 1 to 1 all day. But I get it if trader one is approaching trader two with a proposition for a card trader two has, but has nothing in return that trader two wants. So trader two asks for 80-90% value on whatever trader one is offering in return.
I should be more specific she valued 4 of my items (100 ea on market according to tcgplayer and eBay) at a meager $265 and said she’d pay the difference. That’s each being $66.
If they take ANY card you offer I think it’s fair. If they pick and choose then should be no percentages imo.
if they want a percentage tell them to go purchase a table to vend, facebook marketplace is free and we are all on the same level buddy that’s 1:1 or nothing
This isn’t a card show. Market for market. Or a few points in either way depending
Blame vendor youtube videos and streams for popularized uneven trades.
If ur not a vendor at a show, or an lgs and u try the “i trade at ___% “youre a clown. Plain n simple
it has to stop
Remember when we used to trade for equal value or for cards we just wanted.
This is how literally every stupid card market transaction is going now.
I paid full market price for all my cards at the time. Trying to sell them again because priorities have changed has become a legitimate nightmare where I’ve mostly just given up and accepted that I’ll keep my collection.
No I’m not selling you my complete tag-team collection for 70% market.
It’s like those dumb kids at school always trying to rip you off with bad trades. They’re just grown up now.
“What a coincidence, I also do trades at a percentage of market value!” – how to shut them up
Met a guy at a Saturday market that was selling and buying cards. I had 5, PSA 10 cards from Journey Together with me. Market value average (Between 3 different apps) came out to a total of $1215. I have two people I normally sell to but figured I’d check to see what he would offer. Dude, tried to say I needed to comp 25% off market for “Volatility“ then sell for a % of that. he tried offering $640. I turned him down and went to my normal guy and offered them to him for $915 he turned it down so I went to guy #2 and he bought them at $900. I will be flexible when selling cards but I refuse to go below 65% of market value and I don’t “Comp” a percentage for market volatility. as a buyer you are responsible for making purchases that can appreciate or depreciate and any volatility falls on you. As a seller I don’t have to sell to you if your offer is disrespectful toward the value of my products.
What a douche
