Is there a benefit to leaving a pokemon at a max spot once it has earned 5 candies?

I did a max battle at the airport Monday and left a pokemon there — it has now done 30 battles and earned 5 candies. Is that the max? Is there any benefit to leaving it there? Do people actually get candy XL from these? It’s not one one I use regularly in battles so I don’t miss it, but if it potentially uses up a spot someone else can benefit from to earn candies at an active location I could free that up. I don’t see anything about a time defending max locations?
