I’m in the process of making my pets into Pokémon but have stumbled into a roadblock. I’m really happy with how the evolution is coming along, but I’d really like it to have some sort of accessory/gimmick/clothing-like-thing that makes it very distinct—Think Zacian’s sword, primarina’s hair, ceruledge’s swords, corviknight’s armor, houndour’s ribs, mismagius’s gems and clothes, chien-pao’s blade, the tapus’ shields… You get the idea. I’m especially fond of the gray area where elements aren’t their own item (like alakazam’s spoons) but aren’t clearly just a body part (like scyther’s blades). Out of these, ceruledge is my favorite mix.
For the line, the vibe I’m going for is cute regular puppy -> edgy occulty teen -> big undead tank (not drawn yet). I’m definitely going to make the middle evolution look more scrappy and possibly simplify it so I can add an accessory.
If it helps, the basic evolution lore is as follows:
• normal puppy gets into edgy stuff (possibly in encountering said mystery accessory—can be likened to happini -> chansey)… this stage is either normal or dark.
• edgy occulty teens are known to gather in the woods at night. The few that have followed them have come back with a crack in their sanity, mumbling about some ritual in the woods.. and sometimes, when they reappear to their trainers the next night, they come back… different. This stage is dark type.
• big undead tank is the “coming back different,” implying that it’s lost some of its animal quality and has gained some weird immortality-semi-death status. I’m liking the idea of talismans in this stage of the design. This will be ghost / dark.
