Catch everything you see, play a bunch of GBL (even losing gets you Stardust), and play particular events.
For example, next Spotlight hour (Tuesday 9th of September 2025, 18:00 – 19:00 local time) will feature Trubbish and 2x catch Stardust.
Trubbish awards 750 Stardust normally, so 1500 per catch during that spotlight hour. Add a Star Piece for 1.5x gains and that is 2250 stardust per catch. If you’re lucky it might even be weather boosted (cloudy weather if I remember correctly).
Catch 200 Trubbish and that is between 300k to 450k stardust, depending on if you use two star pieces or not. You could even catch more Pokemon, depending on the spawns in your area, this guess is pretty conservative.

Next time they have gmax battles, do as many as you can with a star piece. You can also pay 200 coins to double rewards for 75k stardust per gmax battle

Next Tuesday, 6-7pm, Trubbish will have a spotlight hour. Catching Trubbish gives significantly more stardust than most species. Using a star piece multiplies it by 1.5 for 30 minutes.
Battling in the Leagues when Master League is available gives much higher than normal stardust rewards for winning battles.
At the end of the battle league season – i.e. since 30 minutes ago – a significant amount of stardust is awarded based on your final rank. Use a star piece (before going to the battle page) to multiply that by 1.5.

If you’re into hatching eggs, forgot about chasing the rotating shinnies. Go for 12 12km eggs that hatch together on a star piece. That will net about 84k. Combine with other strategies mentioned here to extend the star piece usefulness
