Hi again everyone!
It's been a little bit, but after I finished my Pokewalker for my Apple Watch, I wanted to remake my Pokewalker for my iPhone (also, I broke my Apple Watch, so that was also motivating).
Like before, a lot of people were asking me I've also found a way to distribute it without putting it on the App Store. So I've used TestFlight again.
It does some cool things, like give you Pokemon eggs based on your steps walked, and then you can use those eggs to hatch and evolve Pokemon. There's also a weekly leaderboard where you can vie for the most steps against notable trainers across Kanto and Johto.
It's a bit rough around the edges, and optimized for my iPhone (i.e. it looks best on iPhone's that are iPhone 15 sized), but it works regardless and can be a pretty good motivator for getting some steps in 🙂 .
I thought I'd share it if anyone wants to try it out, and I'm hoping to update it to include stuff like Races against a new league, PvP connectivity, and the like!
If you're interested in downloading the app please follow the below instructions on your iPhone:
1. Download TestFlight. TestFlight is an App that lets you download test builds of apps before they reach the market. Since this is not ever going to market, this is what we'll use to get this app onto watches.
2. Use the testing invite link and install the iPhone app. This link (https://testflight.apple.com/join/8sjwqUjq) will invite you to test the app. From there, you can install the iPhone app.
Then it should be ready to use.
How to Play
(I haven't made a tutorial in the game, so the gameplay might not be super intuitive at first).
Collecting Eggs
Hit the 'SYNC' button on the main page to sync. You'll get an egg if you've walked 10,000 steps. It doesn't need to be in one day. You can sync every 6 hours.
If you've walked 10,000 steps you'll get to select an egg. You can select from unlocked areas, and you unlock more areas by walking more steps. Some Pokemon are rare in each area, and Pokemon can be shiny.
On the Pokémon Details screen, select the 'ACTIONS' button to walk, evolve and buddy your Pokemon
Walking Pokémon and Eggs
In the action menu, hit walk. Then select the amount of steps you want to walk and then confirm. If you walk enough to hatch an egg, it will hatch. Pokemon will not automatically evolve.
Evolving Pokémon
In the action menu, hit evolve. If the Pokemon has multiple evolutions, you can select which one you like. Then confirm.
Changing your 'Buddy' Pokemon
Your Buddy Pokémon is visible on the leaderboard and main menu page.
If you have more than one Pokemon, you can switch Buddies.
To do this, hit the buddy button and then confirm.
Nicknaming Pokemon
Hatched Pokemon can be nicknamed. Just select the Nickname button in the Action menu. Only alphanumeric characters are allowed.
