Gmax Garbodor Tanks and Attackers Analysis

Tl;dr

Gmax Garbodor is trash, both literally and figuratively. Bring a pair of Steel tanks and your best Psychic or Ground attacker. Enjoy the dex filler and stardust rewards.

Gigantamax Garbodor debuts Saturday November 1st. Unfortunately, the only Poison type Gmax has low stats and awful moves. Despite the Gmax damage, Garbodor’s low attack stat holds it back. Against either Grass or Fairy types we have multiple better attackers in other types, even Zamazenta doing steel damage against a Fairy surpasses Garbodor’s Max Attack damage. The ONLY use case for Garbodor is against a boss that is double weak to Poison, which means a hypothetical future Tapu Bulu boss. Gmax Garbodor is mostly a dex entry and a mound of stardust.

Other Poison type Max Attackers we could see in the future that would surpass Gmax Garbodor include Deoxys (Attack), Naganadel, Sneasler, Nihilego, and Roserade.

The CPM and HP I’ll be using for the simulations are the same as what Gmax Butterfree was given. It feels like a very comparable boss with low base stats and some subpar moves. It’s entirely possible Gmax Garbodor is given a much high HP and/or CPM which would make it more difficult than these simulations suggest.

Attackers

If you haven’t built a Latios, it’s time to power up a Dynamax Alakazam. 15 attack IV is all you really need; you’re never tanking with Alakazam.

I’ve included Espeon, Gardevoir, and Gallade on the attackers table just to show how relevant they might be, but they obviously won’t be available by the Max Battle Day. Nor would I suggest ever building any of them specifically for Max Battles.

Tanks

It’s a sea of green numbers here thanks to Garbodor having an abysmal set of charged moves. Gunk Shot is the only move that hits hard. Every move Garbodor has is resisted by steel types, with the Poison moves being double resisted.

All MCF values are now an average of simulations. Even the single moves are from simulations where both the spread and targeted move were set to the same move. These values are mostly to quickly see what moves your tank might want to avoid or excel against. GRC values are still calculated by formula, but you probably don’t need to use Max Guard against Garbodor. One might make a case for using Max Guard if the Spread Move is Gunk Shot just so the other move it used more, but even then, most decently powered up steel types can soak up the damage long enough for everyone to attack a few cycles with Psychic type.

Defeating Garbodor with just four trainers looks very viable if everyone has appropriate level 40 counters and uses the usual tank and attack swapping strategy. If you fail because of Gunk Shot you can always try again to get a roll without Gunk Shot, although even the move sets with Gunk Shot look like doable quad battles.
