Hey everyone! I am back after a small hiatus with some new installments in my attempt to sculpt realistic takes on all 151 Kanto Pokémon. I apologize in the delay in this series after my Snorlax, getting married took precedence. 😉
Anyway, this week's post is of two of my all time favorites of the original 151, Magnemite and Magneton! With these two being so alien, I decided to stay closer to their original character models, and opted to simply add more detail to achieve the "real world" look I am going for. This mostly boiled down to adding nuts to the screws, as well as giving them a more worn down metallic look (which I attribute to them constantly attracting metal objects from the space they inhabit). These two also have me a chance to make some more detailed display stands, which I thought would be fun to do as a modular design you can rearrange in multiple ways.
For anyone curious, the main bodies and stands are polymer clay, the magnets are a heavy duty cardboard I cut to shape, the stand itself is an acrylic rod, and the nuts and screws are actual nuts and screws. I also painted this with generic acrylics with a brush.
These two hold a special place in my heart, because I recently was able to clean and revive my childhood copy of "Pokémon: Ruby" for the GBA, and have been working my childhood team up to Lv100. I had a Lv24 Magnemite in my box that my wife thought I should name Wazowski, for obvious reasons, and I decided to add him to my party.
He is currently a Lv94 Magneton at the time of posting this, and I love him dearly for this shared connection I have with him and my wife. For that reason, while it may feel backwards considering their number of eyes, the nickname for my Magneton figure is WAZOWSKI, and my Magnemite I nicknamed WATTSON.
Thanks for checking out my work!
