Inspiration:

Hitmonkai's design of its two separate forms is based on the Saiyans from the Dragon Ball series, particularly Spirit Form is based on Goku.

Gigantamax Hitmonkai (Spirit Form) is based on the Great Apes from the Dragon Ball series and Goku’s Great Ape form. The “mini moon” above it represents the full moon that triggers a Saiyan’s transformation.

"Under its created "mini-moon," Hitmonkai's Spirit Form is exposed to Gigantamax energy, which causes it to transform into a massive, primal state with a voice that travels for miles and shakes the earth. Its fierce, destructive attacks are driven only by fighting instinct in this form, and it fights with a wild instinct rather than discipline.
