Saw this kid on the side of the road in my neighborhood, selling cookies to buy Pokémon cards for his friends, so I decided to buy all his cookies and give him some of my sealed packs. A few weeks later, he came to my house and wanted to trade with me. I busted out the collection and I honestly haven’t kept up with it in the last few years. We traded some cards back-and-forth and then he left. He showed up at my house today and wanted to say thank you and to tell me that he got some of the cards I gave him graded and showed me this and when I asked him how much it was he said $1500 and all I could do was laugh and tell him congratulations. Oh well ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Wanna trade?
I mean at least you traded it to a decent human being
Damn that kid hustled you😭
Realistically though this is one of the best case scenarios of who the cards could’ve ended up with, definitely sucks but he’ll remember it when he’s older 100%
Omg oof I’d tell him 2 save it tell him 1 day it could buy him his 1st car lol that’s what I tell me oldest I tell him probably not a new car but a car nonetheless
Can I come over? We could pokemon and chill
Guess I need to start a cookie stand.
Did he say no taksies backsies? If not take it back
I mean he sent that thing to get graded. Bro did the work on it. Good on him and good on you for not being bitter about it
OP *Takes it back and closes the door* lol
I mean bro came back to the house to thank you and shit. A good trade is a trade where both parties are happy. Not 50 bucks for 50 bucks.
Honestly there’s no better feeling than making a kids day.
I was at a trade day a year ago and a kid was wanting the Charizard from Obsidian Flames, not the SIR the standard ultra rare #215. Not far down some neckbeard told him that he had nothing good enough to trade for it so he “may as well go home”. Called the kid over and took a look at his binder, it was a lot of bull and standard holo/rev holo rares nothing fancy, but a beat up Azumarill from steam siege caught my eye, asked him if he was ok trading it for my Charizard and his eyes lit up. Best day ever for that kid and I have a little beat up memory filled card to remember him.
He 100% knew what he was doing he sent that thing in on express grading LMAO
No way thats crazy man. That actually reminds me of a funny story of my own. This was a while ago, but I was on the side of the road one day selling cookies and this guy walks up to me out of nowhere and bought all my cookies and gave me some pokemon packs too. A few weeks later I actually ended up going to his house to trade cards, and he traded me a Blastoise and Piplup tag team alternate art card. Anyway, I ended up grading the card and now it’s worth $1500!! Man, life is so crazy.
The most unbelievable part is where he came back “weeks” later and had managed to get the cards back from PSA that quick 🤣
Were the cookies good though?
My sons favorite graded card is worth about 7$. Not because it’s a good grade or an awesome card (a General Mills Pikachu promo, CGC 5). It’s because at his first ever trade night some lady gave it to him for what he felt was a good deal. He got a graded card for a raw 151 Pikachu Full Art. Yea it was a bunk deal but he is 10, she was cute, dressed as misty and it lit up his world lol. Things like this are why i still collect pokemon. Because every card is what it’s worth to you and some stuff is more important than money. I don’t take him to trade nights anymore though lol.
Well done sir.
I gave one of my students a $50 cards last year because I knew he’d treasure it and I had a dupe. Worth the joy on their faces, always.
This happened bro
Good on you 🙂 core memory for him
It’s really nice to hear a good story, w positive responses. Thank you. Be the change you want in the world is one of my favorite sayings. & while you may not have known it at the time; your attitude says a lot about you. Now. Let’s hope this kid does the right thing, & gives you free lemonade for life.
I wanna be as optimistic as the other people in this thread, but the fact that he knew to instantly get them graded, knew which ones to grade, and knew how to grade, tells me he knew he was fleecing you when he made those trades 😭😭
I hope im wrong, but kids nowadays would sell their own mother for a few extra bucks with online gambling and flex culture being what it is. Ive seen too many video of 12 year olds walking around card shows trying to trade literal fake cards that they KNEW were fake.
I had a kid come up to me and had his full pikachu collection. He was so proud and didnt wanna trade but wanted a pikachu I had really bad. Well his mom was there so I said, “have you been listening to mom? And getting good grades?”, kid shakes his head and mom gives me a nod. So I go alright ill give ya the card but im gonna ask ya the same thing next week and if mom says no it goes back to me. That was 2 months ago and mom says hes been keeping his grades up and behaving. 25$ pikachu well spent!
My dad’s truck was broken down and he gave it to his less wealthy friend. Turned out it was easily fixed and the friend offered it back, but like you, my dad said keep it. Truck was only worth a couple thousand dollars maybe, this was about 15 years ago.
I mean.. honestly? This is what the hobby SHOULD be about. Keeping future traders and trainers alive. I play the games as much as I collect the cards. MTG is my only competitive card game I collect consistently for the value in formats still.
Pokemon is collecting for all ages, for the TCG and video games. Keep the younger generations excited for stuff like this. It helps the hobby alive and sends positive memories forward.
The student becomes the master
This reminds me of something that happened last year. My cousins came over and brought their kids, two of them were playing outside and they saw my room with pokemon card frames on the wall. I heard later that they pestered their mom to see them so she asked me if they could look at my room, I obliged.
When they saw my binders they freaked out, it was funny to see. I took out my box of duplicates (all holographics) and told them to each pick one. The oldest picked, you guessed it, base set charizard. The card was near mint too, it hurt at first but seeing his face and screaming running around was funny to watch. The youngest took fossil gengar, also near mint.
If you look at it this way, you guys are a team jus like the card itself. Your big blastoise and hes the Lil piplup, lots of greedy people in the hobby so it’s good to let him enjoy what you once forgot and give it some new found love. 🐢🐧
Sucks losingbthat much but you would have never known if you never got it graded yourself, but he was working to try and get these cards, honestly better than it going ti a scalper, since kids like him probably cant even get any packs because of them
Story is worth more to both of you than the price of the card
That kid is gonna remember your kindness for life, and honestly, that’s the real win here. He clearly appreciated it enough to come back and show you. You created a core memory for him, and that’s priceless.
core memory for the rest of his life. you have a great attitude about this ! 99% of people would be punching the air. God bless
He needed to sell cookies to buy Pokémon cards but had enough money to get cards graded? Something is off here 🤔🤔
