I've been into designing my own fakemon for as long as I was even into Pokemon as a whole, so maybe 16 years at this point. And in all that time I always struggled with specifically water starters. I always wanted something evocative and not cliche for my water starter, and as it happens I feel like the pool of aquatic animals fit to be starters is kinda low. But eventually I settled on this crab design. In making of this line I was fixated on the motif of a claw, not just with crab claws, but in entire design. So the idea is, the claw-like armor is on a hinge, and they can freely close and open the top part of it to protect the head.
