Todays Appreciation Post Is….. Rayquaza ( Even Though After Z-A I Unofficially Hate It )
This one is Rayquaza VMAX, number TG29 from the SILVER TEMPEST: TRAINER GALLERY.
Some may think that Rayray lives in space….but he doesn't, canonically it lives high in the O-Zone layer of Earth ( above the clouds ). He only shows up when Kyogre and Groudon are arguing like toddlers.
Rayquaza has no trainer….right so who taught it Dragon Ascent ? The answer is ( according to lore ) it was self-taught. A Pokemon and a Martial Art Inventor, who knew !!
It doesn’t control land or sea — it controls the sky’s balance
Groudon = land
Kyogre = sea
Rayquaza = atmospheric equilibrium.
In Emerald lore, Rayquaza’s job isn’t dominance, it’s conflict resolution. It’s basically the legendary Pokémon equivalent of a UN peacekeeper.
Its body is inspired by Chinese dragons, not Western ones
Most Western dragon designs = wings + bulky
Rayquaza = long, serpentine, no wings
It’s visually much closer to an Eastern sky dragon (symbols of weather and balance), which fits its role perfectly.
There's seriously many more Rayquaza facts ( He Can Eat Actual Meteorites 😳 ) but we'll save them for another day.
