If you could give one-ability pokemon another one, what would it be? Alolan Raichu version
Now A. Raichu has a great ability with surge surfer, but I still feel bad for anyone with a HA Pichu or Pikachu in Alola. So for possible hidden abilities, I could see:
\- Lightning rod(Pikachu & Pichu’s hidden ability and it still fits with its tail shape)
\- Levitate(ironic considering my last two posts, but this is a case where it would fit and actually help in battles)
\- Swift swim(reference to surfers being fast in water and helps in competitive rain teams)

Swift Swim A-Raichu in rain would be nuts. 100% accuracy Thunder with almost guaranteed first move… straight from ZU into at least UU, maybe even borderline. Nasty Plot, Thunder, Draining Kiss, Psyshock and you have quite a sweeper.
Electric surge
Give it a new ability that does the same thing as Surge Surfer, but on Psychic Terrain.
Swift swim or cute charm
Third rail: when this pokemon is on electric terrain increases special attack by 1.5x but take damage every turn
Electric terrain version of solar power
Levitate
It literally floats on its tail, even when it’s sleeping.

Low key upgrade Surge Surfer to also set up the terrain.

I get what you mean about Surge Surfer being solid, but kinda limiting – like it requires Electric Terrain to pop off, so it’s not always easy to build around unless you’re running Pincurchin or Tapu Koko. Levitate makes a lot of sense. I mean, it’s floating on its tail! It’d give Alolan Raichu a much-needed immunity to Ground, which is one of its biggest weaknesses – since it already stacks Electric and Psychic weaknesses (looking at you, Krookodile 😩). Lightning Rod would be a nice nod to the pre-evolutions, but I feel like it’d overlap a bit too much with regular Raichu’s niche. That said, it’d be good in doubles – to support something like Pelipper or another Water-type on a rain team. Swift Swim is a super creative pick! I hadn’t thought of that before, but pairing a surfer mon with rain synergy? That’s a vibe. Fast surf rat go brrr 🌊⚡ I might throw in Electromorphosis (just for flavor) or even Motor Drive – imagine turning Electric attacks into speed boosts and keeping that sleek, zoomy feel. Great ideas though – I’d love to see A. Raichu get some alternate builds. It deserves a bit more love in the meta!
Levitate and Swift Swim are both really nice options. Swift Swim Raichu could actually be pretty terrifying with Thunder. I think this is a much more fun and unique idea than Levitate, as much as Levitate seems like the obvious choice on a surface level.

My wish for alolachu would be for it to get swift swim as a second regular ability, and then levitate as a hidden ability.
Swift swim would give it viability on rain teams as a speedy special attacker (thunder, surf, psychic/psyshock, nasty plot), or drop nasty plot for coverage/volt switch and run choice specs.
And levitate as a third option, as it really does look like it should have levitate.
Levitate would be amazing. Swift Swim would probably be better competitively but Levitate just feels right.
this is one of my all time favorite pokemon. def deserves a better ability. Maybe one that sets electric terrain and gives like a 1.5 speed boost on it.
