Arceus is actially not just PokéGod, but also a legendary Pokéhater. Created Giratina just so that somemon could get banished to the antimatter dimension. He tried to do it again in PLA but he missed.

  2. Palkia and Dialga were created to govern time and space, Giratina was created to govern antimatter but its aggressive nature was so great and so destructive, Arceus had to banish it

Basic creation myths/lore all follow good vs evil, Arceus did not know or expect Giratina to be like that

Giratina wasn’t banished because they represent antimatter. They were banished because they were overly violent. The march of time can wither all things and the chaos of space can provide much danger, but in the end Dialga and Palkia keep to themselves for the most part, don’t they? Giratina doesn’t. Bro saw the beauty of creation and was like “showtime.”

  4. DarkRayos

You can say the three were created to rule over a certain domain (time, space, and antimatter)

But in Gira’s case he’d also serve as a “ref” between Dialga and Palkia. (Sorta like Rayquaza, but with a more fierce persona.) (I can’t really remember him being described as “evil” necessarily, more like a peacekeeper with a bit of a temper.)

Wasn’t it kinda implied that the Poke world and the Distortion world exist as counterparts that balance each other out? Maybe Giratina existing in the Distortion World helps keep that balance.

  6. arceus didnt go to physics class so they didnt know what happens when antimatter touches matter

  7. It was the ruler of antimatter even before it became banished.

  8. LarZiehGarth

    He ruled antimatter before, too.

In an alternate Reality, dialga might have been the sinner, and got banished to another dimension, with giratina and palkia just being loyal to arceus.

If Giratina represents antimatter, what represents matter? Palkia? Space is matter? So did Arceus create a being to be the opposite of the other one? That seems sad for poor Giratina, who lost a fight with their opposite and became banished and mislabeled

I actually saw a good reason for this from a fan game. He’s there to help keep a balance between positive and negative energy. The Distortion World draws in the negative energy of people and Pokemon from Earth. Reality would destabilize without Giratina.

I don’t think Giratina is antimatter, no matter what Gamefreak says. Gravity makes more sense because it’s a distortion of time and space. I think Arceus exiled it because its presence was distorting them to a catastrophic extent.

So Giratina is basically a God of Destruction like Beerus?

Disclaimer: This might be somewhat long

Giratina being the ruler of antimatter and being banished to the alternate dimension isn’t presented as a fact. It is Cynthia’s supposition based on her study of history. In pokemon platinum, when the player is in the distortion world, time and space are said to be distorted- which cannot be due to antimatter. Also if Giratina was actually the ruler of antimatter, the player going into the distortion world wouldn’t make sense, as that would lead to matter and antimatter interacting with each other.

Instead, as theorized by the aforementioned yt channel, Giratina was created to be the ruler of Gravity. In the distortion world, land and water bodies are seen floating in various orientations- sideways, upside down, etc. This properly fits with Giratina ruling over gravity. Giratina being banished to the distortion world isn’t a punishment, but the existence of giratina’s gravitational forces were causing chaotic conditions in the real world, especially during the formation of the world. So, Arceus sends it to a different dimension where its forces can be contained safely. After being in the distortion world for so long, Giratina learns to properly control gravity, hence is able to travel to the real world whenever he wishes without causing any problems.

Thus you have the rulers of Time, Space and Gravity being created at the same time. This also helps in Giratina’s image as the third-stronger legendary (like Rayquaza over Groudon and Kyogre) as Gravity holds the ability to warp space-time.

It is really funny if you think about Giratina as the older sibling of the twins Dialga and Palkia. The younger siblings were naturally proficient at controlling their powers, while Giratina, the older one, used to screw up a lot leading it to be contained in a separate world. At least now, he has proper control over gravity

Some part is Lockstin and Gnoggin’s theory and the other is how I interpreted it. Do check out Lockstin and Gnoggin youtube channel for more such theories

So, like, I have a lot of personal disagreements with what Giratina is commonly depicted as. Generally, I think many of the pokedex entries we see are full of baloney seeing as they’re made by a bunch of 10-year-olds and don’t make a lot of sense sometimes (magcargo..). So, I don’t take the pokedex as fact in my Pokémon head cannon.

I think Giratina represents Gravity, not antimatter. It’s unclear what the distortion world is, but I don’t think it’s a prison Giratina was ever banished too. I think it’s either just its home, or I’ve seen others mention Giratina/the distortion world could exist to balance out energy or something in our world (more on this later!). Could be both, BUT one of the distortion world’s most notable features is its inconsistent gravity. We also know G’s altered form exists so it can move around in earth’s gravity.

From what I know about antimatter, it violently erupts when it contacts matter… Nothing about Giratina or the distortion world appears to exhibit this behavior.

From what we know based on the movie, Giratina and the Sky Warrior, Dialga and Palkia started seriously messing up the distortion world inadvertently during their fighting in the previous movie. This made Giratina pissed who sought accountability by nabbing Dialga.

We see in the distortion world that ash pops a bubble thingy causing Brock to be shoved to the ground in the real world. Also, Zero starts destroying crystals in the distortion world which caused a natural disaster to begin in the real world, requiring Regigigas (goat) to wake up from his likely thousand-year slumber to stop a runaway glacier from leveling a town.

We then see Giratina repair the crystals in the distortion world causing the glacier in the real world to stabilize on its own. This leads me to believe the distortion world, ruled by Giratina, does help keep balance with the real world, AND that its possible for things that happen in the real world to mess with the distortion world (Dialga/Palkia fighting in the previous movie), i.e. piss off Giratina. What happened to Brock and the glacier could literally be explained by gravity being warped btw.

I can see it being a common myth that Giratina was banished by Arceus, though that is just a misunderstanding of what the distortion world is and Giratina’s solitary nature. Giratina shows compassion and kindness to Ash and co when they save Giratina. *Giratina just wants to keep the peace!*

This is just my firm head cannon. Nothing will likely be confirmed. I love talking about this. The little bit of depth of Giratina’s character in the movie (more than most Pokémon) makes it one of my absolute favorite Pokémon.

Quick touch on PLA. I’m not sure if the antagonist and Giratina really had a partnership, or more of forced capture/misleading. Giratina transforms into Origin form in Hisui, which shouldn’t be possible, but maybe possible due to the distortion it made. That distortion it made though doesn’t seem linked to the actual distortion world we see in the movie.
Basically, we know there exist different timelines through the games, it’s possible there’s a timeline that Giratina could be evil, could be ruler of antimatter, and could have been banished by Arceus. I just don’t jive with that timeline too much.

**TL: DR** I think Giratina is grossly misunderstood. It represents Gravity and seeks to keep a healthy balance between its home (distortion world) and ours. It gets pissed when anyone starts screwing with that balance.

There’s a theory that has been popping up recently (can’t remember if it was last year or before that) that Giratina is actually Arceus’ shadow.

Shadow as in a manifestation of negative traits that was created during or sometime around the creation of Palkia and Dialga. Therefore meaning that both are two sides of the same coin.

A YouTuber made a video on the theory (I can’t remember if he created it, built on it or what). His name was Amazedragon iirc. It’s really interesting and explains certain things like what some of the Arceus’ Plate inscriptions might mean. I think I saw another YouTuber give a similar but different spin to it in a more spiritual angle. Really interesting stuff.

I swear the theory-crafters are the best part of any franchise

  16. humansizedfaerie

there’s a lot of evidence that dialga and palkia resented and even hated arceus, at least they used to they might not now, so i wouldnt be surprised if giratina did too (hence the violence)

there’s a youtube series that compiles this stuff if you wanna check it out

  17. GiratinaBabbies

Giratina’s world maintains balance between time and space. It can still travel to the real world at will

  18. 12thMercury

I read Giratina as giraffe first and I was like yea they kind do lol like that

  19. Researcher_Saya

I subscribe to the idea that Giratina is Arceus shadow. he wasn’t created, he just came to exist when Arceus did
